Question So, if you 'ad to be a dog, what breed would you choose?

I think I would be a Border Collie, energetic enthusiatic intelligent and bossy towards sheep. I like riding on the back of Landies too.

What would you be?

I have Border Collies and Kangal dogs.

Border Collies herd and manage my sheep,Kangals live with sheep and protect them against coyotes (upgraded to Eastern Timber Wolf by the state),black bears , neighbour's marauding pet dogs and of course herons.

I would not want to be either,I like to be a spoiled lap dog that yaps and nips anyone that comes near, including my owners as they feel guilty for not understanding me right and blame themselves for all my ill temper.

Yo,Connie!

Your poor dog looks so lost without sheep around.

Here's my mama Kangal telling her babe to be polite around grain bin.

Now this fellow is one scary sheep protector.

Ms. Nana, hard working Border Collie taking a rest with her favourite companion.

Another hard working Border Collie Rex driving sheep into sunset.

Nani, can Border Collies handle wolves? I know that Great Pyrenees can, they are breed for that. We had an Arctic White Timber Wolf and a Great Pyr. In nature they would have been mortal enemies. As pets they loved each other, when wolf died the Great Pyr mourned for nearly a month.

Picture of 'Timmie', the wolf.

Now here is a picture of a really, really, really BIG DOG!

Not photoshopped. That is a real dog.

Nani, sorry, just now saw your post with the pictures. Disregard my question. I'm sure they can.

Didn't know what a kangal was, so I Googooed.
Here is a video of how a kangal deals with another dog.
It is a dogfight, but not an aggressive fight, more a wrestle (so I offer it for educational information, not entertainment):- kangal vs rot

There's also a photo of how large they can get:-

What is that thing? Neapolitan Mastiff? Among gigantic dogs, I'm kind of fond of the Irish Wolfhound (though they don't live very long) and the Tibetan Mastiff. Loyal, big, tough, nice to children... we should all be so.

G-C, too funny, I was looking Kangals up as well. Impressive dogs, they look to be the same size as the Great Pyrenees.

Sir George, sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but once dog lovers get going, hard to shut us down.

Why is there only one photograph of that Herculean dog alongside that pony?
Do a search on 'biggest dog' and the same photo appears every time. If it was genuine, wouldn't there be more photos?

BTW, my pet dog was a bassethound.

She had 'Queen Anne' legs . . .

Um... lifting... , After that photo came out last year the story about the dog was going around and I do believe it was a type of Mastiff. As you pointed out sadly large dog breeds do not live long lives. Our wolf lived until she was 14. Our first Great Pyr lived until he was 13, however, he didn't come to live with us until he was 9.

Nani, regarding the Great Pyr and sheep thing. From what I understand breeders raise Great Pyrenees for either livestock protection or for household pets. I have been told they cannot be both, once accepted into a human home they will basically forget the sheep. Unless of course the sheep live very close, like in the backyard, to the human house.

I did notice that the Kangal had the wolf collar on her.

G-C, I have seen other pictures of that dog, also there was an article on the dog as well. The owner of the dog claimed that it had no special diet, it was big when it was born and just kept growing. I'll try to find some more pictures or the article.

G-C, you are correct to be suspicious. While researching to prove the photo in question is legitimate, I found evidence that is a fake picture. Why the photo is faked I don't know, because the dog in question, a Neapolitan Mastiff as Um... lifting... said, is, according to the "Guinness World Records" the largest dog in the world.

New Record for Largest Dog in the World? ...also Duke the Flying Border Collie ...and Wolfhound Skips Rope

Black Labrador. Normally nice and easy going but every once and awhile you bite somebody's ass just to watch the reaction.

Friends who kept Newfoundland Terriers in small houses (no children) admitted that they had to redecorate the walls up to waist height regularly because of the slaver that was emitted when they shook their heads.
