When the chief of police at the station in Santos' mine belt came through, he complimented me on my right hook. The rest is a blur.

(Jesus) Rodriguez
Would that be the gentleman I know as Sixto Rodriguez, major star in SA, unknown in USA? Appearing here next month (we have tickets).

I once flew the 2 guys who operate Barney the Dinosaur, a little white guy in the suit and a big black fella doing the voice. Or was it the other way around? In any event, I had never seen the show, and asked "who the f*** is Barney?"

Didn't get a tip...

Yes, he was known in SA as Jesus Rodriguez but Sixto was his real name. I hope you enjoy the concert, he's past his best but still a wonderful performer. You should also see the film 'Searching for Sugar Man'.

Oh and I forgot Spike Milligan, and Rod Stewart (and his obnoxious then wife Britt Eklund), David Bowie and his repellent wife Angie, who used to book tickets from an agency I once worked at.

......... King Leka of Albania when he and his lovely Australian wife Susan lived in Bryanston.

....... Charles Spencer when he lived in Constantia, an acerbic but entertaining man whose company I enjoyed, , and Mark Thatcher, his neighbour, an obnxious ****.

Bought the DVD (and both music CDs) on returning to UK after hearing the story from our guide in SA.

Wait until they get on so well that they decide they don't need you any more.

(and no, they won't let you watch)

Watched "The Final Countdown" on a huge screen in the hangar of USS Nimitz whilst at sea. When the order was given to "Splash the Zeroes" (at 04:52) - the Mother of all Hooahs went up from the ship's company.. Unforgettable..

Used to serve fish and chips to Paul Scholes....hadn't a clue who he was for a while.....very nice, unassuming family -man....bought his son with him once, in a spiderman outfit . He sent one of his team-mates in once (there were a group of them at his place, apparently)....said guy was served by the manageress and gave her the "do you know who I am ", roand announced his name....Completely unfazed, she shook his hand, said ""Pleased to meet you, I'm Linda H**t. Mr. Scholes told us!

Billy Connoly had a few beers with us and then we split the HUMBLEBUMS between mine and another mate's house to doss for the night.....still have a 7" spool of tape of Colin ? of the group, plus my mate Colin, having a jam-session, eased-along with a lot of alcohol and a bit of wacky backy.

had a jar with Jake Thackeray....wonderful, professional performer, very modest man

Alex Campbell, total pisshead but a good guy.he probably spent his appearance money for the gig, on booze at the gig.

Whilst working in North Africa, once shook the hand of The Boss ( now deceased ) of the country producing very high quality oil. Not proud of that, but I had no option..... can anybody beat that ?

Once built a suspension bridge for the King of Jordan.

IOT - royal visit and our course was on field exercises. Sqn Boss called me and a mate in and said "Right, you two are Engineering graduates. You have 3 days, 2 flights, 4 miles of rope and as many pine poles as you like - Build something impressive!!"

So we did!

A long time ago.

Halton...our then Flt,Cmdr had won the Sword of Honour at Cranwell.

We came up with a cunning entry stunt which involved placing a banner on the balcony of said College....he was of the opinion that it could not be done, however, if proven wrong, would provide suitable refreshment.

Thus the epic ascent, the R.A.F had thoughtfully provided assistance called fire escape ladders, in part, and drain pipes thereafter, and with the term "risk assessment" not yet being coined, duly took place at 03.00 ish dark hours....the roof is flat, on the top, the sides however, have a "slight incline".....or downright bloody steep if your prefer.

We achieved our objective, we being me and two others, and duly descended...with ahem, hindsight and, erm, daylight, it began to dawn as to why our Boss said it could not be done.

Sadly, some of the grown ups at Cranwell did not entirely approve of this venture but were duly "ignored" thereafter.

As far as I am aware, nobody else has achieved this ascent in the same manner.....which is probably a sensible move on their part.
