Britishness?

When You look at how We have to consider the sensibilities of all kinds of minority groups to the point where the silent majority are in fact the gagged majority for fear of prosecution by the authorities it's hard to see where Brown's idea for celebrating Britishness can avoid being accused of being racist

Re: Britishness?

Brown is an ambitious fool who has screwed up the Great British Pension singlehandedly (and apparently gotten away with it). All he waits for is to satisfy his ambition to stab the boss in the back (he is front of the queue of 55 million). He will preside over a disintegrating 'Major' type government until the other team get in and after a decade they screw it up in their own way. Brown thinks he is some sort of financial genius- he has fortunately presided over the Brit economy during a very fortuitous and advantageous financial background, reinforcing his conviction 'he is smart'. The most dangerous fool is the one who thinks he is clever. He has wrapped the Brit flag around him and declared we must now all parade on St. George's Day (or whenever he thinks we all should) with marching bands and kids playing drums. The Tories could never come up with this one otherwise it would lead to an accusation of moving towards the BNP! He could (to get the publicity). We're Brits- it won't last! We don't even do St. George's Day. Just another bloody politician getting himself publicity. Sack 'em all! They're all a waste of time (and bloody spies too). Dare I call them 'pondlife'? Pathetic.

Re: Britishness?

I fully agree with Mr Brown,we should take a leaf out of the muslims book, every Englishman should be required at least once in their lives to take a pilgrimage to the White Cliffs of Dover ,there they should stand stiff upper lipped facing across the channel, then rotating 180 degrees ceremoniously drop their kecks and moon the French.

Re: What It Means To Be British?

Brodreach treads carefully in... observing from a slight distance because I have lived "abroad" in many countries most of my life, I think being British is easier to describe from the outside than from in.

It's an ongoing sense of justice and fairness, what's right and what's wrong. Not innate but ingrained, things we learn at school, in sports, in business, we grow up with. The principle suffers occasional erosion by individuals and politicians (Profumo, Archer, mass murderers etc) but there is always that mass of decency to bring it back on course, by vote, public opprobrium or support.

I wish the world had another twenty Britains.
