Question Pop-It-In-Pete

I know it sounds like a porn star, but I think there was once a Postman on a kids' T.V. programme called Pop-It-In-Pete.
Someone please tell me I didn't dream this, so I can win an office bet.

This had me worried for a moment. I thought it might have been a reference to a certain much-loved PPRuNer....

Eagle, he existed, but along with "Self Raising Fred the baker" was a character created by Larry "shut that door" Grayson.

What a gay day!

Not really a kids'programme - it was the Generation Game
'Pop-it-in-pete' was one of Larry Grayson's characters - others included -
Everard
Slack Alice
Pop it in Pete, the postman
Self Raising Fred, the baker
Apricot Lil
Non-Stick Nell
Once a week Nora

and Larry's Catch Phrases -

"What a gay day"
"Shut that door"
"I'm sure he's got my brooch"
"Seems like a nice boy"
"Look at the muck on 'ere"
"What are the scores on the doors, Isla?"
"She's as common as muck"

PP just to make you feel better: the fact that I hoped it might shed some light on the life of exactly the same much-loved-bar-top-clearer when reading the name of this thread was the only reason i clicked on it! :o

Eric and 4llA - Thanks for helping sort that out.
I used to watch The Generation Game when Brucie was hosting it, but when Larry Grayson took over, I was in my late teens and had a few other things on my mind on a Saturday evening.

Who remembers Captain Pugwash the pirate?

Was there not Seaman Stains & Master Bates on the crew?

Memory probably playing tricks here, but wasn't one of Larry Grayson's Dramatis Personae a certain "Fag Ash Lil"? I can't find any reference to it in the site mentioned above and only ask out of (very) idle curiosity. Can anyone shed any light on this for me,please?
