Cornish, you wouldn't be the first player, including some at pennant level, to be led astray by 'Revd' Cannoli's notorious misdirections. The moustachioed fraudster himself (real name Frank Whipple) is now resting quietly at a certain well-known place of detention, where he is believed to have written a lengthy work on the strategy of the game of draughts replete with his trademark false leads. Most copies of 'MC With Cannoli' were pulped. I suggest you consign yours to the nearest roaring fire.

No matter. Bank is still a stout move, and a proper response has required some research. Stovold suggests Pinner or one of the Actons, and is supported, after a fashion, by Greives, at least in the later editions.

I'll go for a cross traffic evolution to

Pinner

'Brunel's Default', eh?

It was no lesser man than the little genius himself who first tried the Paddington to Victoria transit. He had the impressive advantage of turning up at the great Swindon meet of 1851 in his own locomotive. The overwhelming confidence of his manner went a long way to ensuring the popular success of his move, despite, allegedly, certain misgivings amongst the tourney umpires. Ergo,

Victoria

I declare a Power Play.
(Leeds Conference 1971). Mrs Cornwaller's Captain's exceptions.

A gentle half-loop to Baker Street.

That power play surely gets revoked due to Grieves summary adjunct on time wasted between plays - to whit a cuckolded frogmorton is to be played in a Victorian manor

This takes us all the way to kings cross

Hum. That's getting close.
I was then tempted by abandoned stations, but Dame Periwinkle always objected to them. Samantha won't let me take her there either.
So, a more thoughtful response.

Monument.

As usual, this latest flurry of high risk moves began with an invocation of the shocking alleged events at Leeds in '71.

A sortie to

Golders Green

may calm things somewhat.

Ah, but.......you forget that the Leeds community know the Golders Green community very well.

Samantha was chatting to Humphrey (pbuh) some years ago, and he was very quiet about the Leeds Conference.

On well, to go on one of "Graham's little benders"

Marylebone

Whomever's benders they are, that move was inspired in its conception, and elegant in its simplicity and execution.

All I can offer is Olympia

(on the assumption that it's open)

It might be held to be splitting pubics in certain quarters, RJM, but isn't the full name of the station KENSINGTON OLYMPIA?

Actually it should be Kensington (Olympia)...the way it appears on the map of the underground and time tables. The brackets are lost I think when one refers to overground services.

From there to York Road I'm using a very old map.

Apologies for being so cavalier about Kensington (Olympia). I know that players have been hurled into knid for less.

York Road... my MC Gazetteer recommends

Mark Lane

I must get a newer edition.

That's ok, RJM, a large donation to the Strut Foundation for Incontinent Fluffers will suffice. Now I shall sally forth into the risky territory of the double-sided platform at the ANGEL
