Exporting aircraft from Italy?
I have a question for you guys. I can't say too much at this point, but let's say I wanted to export an I-reg machine that's been out of commission for decades. What's the equivalent to the CAA ion Italy? Are they easy to deal with? Can an aircraft be exported that might have had it's registration lapse?
Also, how do you deal with title transfers and change of ownership? Can this be done with limited knowledge, or should I involve law firm/title companies etc? Are there title companies in Italy? Grazie mille. |
Hello, it shouldn't be too tricky. You need to contact ENAC (the Italian national aviation authority, equivalent to the CAA in the UK) and request a certificate of deregistration and pay the fee to request it (if i remember correctly it is approx 70 euros). Once you fill in the form you receive from ENAC the aircraft will not be registered anymore in Italy and you will have to contact the relevant aviation authority requesting a new cert. registration, in your case the CAA.
In order to reduce burocracy steps I suggest that you de-register the aircraft with ENAC without changing ownership, as you will indicate the new ownership when u register it with the CAA in the same form you request for the new cert. reg. No sense or need to involve a law firm, it is quite straight forward. The only problem you might find is that ENAC employees aren't known for their excellent English! But you can always ask for further assistance from the CAA (the email is [email protected]) Should you need any more help let me know!! |
The problem is I think the aircraft is already de-registered. It hasn't flown for decades. But in order to import it to the US register, I'll need "official papers" certificate of export etc. Can ENAC do this?

In that case I believe it might be easier...
Get in touch with the FAA registration office, explain what you need to do and it probs will be OK to simply re-register the A/C with the FAA without getting in touch with ENAC! I did a similar thing here in Italy registering a french aircraft we bough and managed to get all the burocracy done in just over a week |

I guess in the US you would have to go the experimental route, in the UK perhaps a permit to fly? Ciao, DG800 |
The aircraft is I-TEMA, an old Piaggio Royal Gull amphibian. I've enquired about any Royal Gulls on the Italian register and been answered that there are none (thanks African Eagle). Hence why I'm assuming this has been de-registered. It hasn't flown since the early 60's.

Yeah, I remember now your previous posts about looking for such a plane. If I were you, I'd ask the owner directly what the current status of the aircraft is rather than assume anything.
