Airline Pilot or Flight Instructor (EASA)
Hi All,
I keep reading all the hustles people went through and still been rejected after airline interviews in Europe. Now I am in the stage when I should decide what career path I should choose and I am thinking between FI(A) and FO at WizzAir. I read that the whole recruitment process sometimes takes a year from application till get a rejection/acceptance by WizzAir hence I was thinking what if I spend the APS MCC training course fee and do a FI rating instead. Than later I just do the ASP MCC training when I have enough funds. However I would like to be a pilot either FI or FO and not sure if an FI can make a proper living out of instructing in Europe. How much can an FI monthly make in avarage? I know its hour specific but there must to be an average what most FI expects to make in a month. do you have any advice or experience? Get the MCC and go for FO, it has much more future potential. You can always do FI aftwerwards if you really want to. But you can never make a career by skipping the FO part if you want to fly for an airline.

Being a flight instructor in the EU is ok if you just want to stay in the air and make a bit of cash while waiting for an airline interview. But honestly, those FI hours don’t really count for much and won’t give you big advantage when it’s time to move on to airlines.
I’ve got a buddy who went all-in on the FI route—he’s got like 5000 hours instructing now, but no flat, no car, no family. WizzAir recently turned him down, and now he’s actually thinking about paying for his own type rating. It’s a risky move as airlines aren’t exactly lining up to hire 45-year-old instructors. |
You'll never get rich as an FI and in Europe it's not really a good route into the airlines. FO is a career. If you want to be a teacher, go FI. If you want to have financial security go FO.
