I too am interested in becoming a pilot. I'm currently living in Korea, but I've spent the majority of my time trawling through forums like this and others for info on becoming a pilot.

I have been a little put off by the negativity which surrounds the jobs market in Europe. But the possibility of working in a far flung corner of the world really excites me. Travel is one of the factors that makes being a pilot so enticing for me. So I was wondering do all of you think being flexible on my country of employment would vastly improve my chances of getting a job (any job!!)? Or is it pretty much the same everywhere?

Absolutely. The key to getting anywhere in aviation is flexibility and the more able you are to relocate and take whatever opportunities that come your way the better. Exactly how much it improves your chances is topic for discussion though...but every little helps as they say.

Forget the US unless you are a US Citizen, and it's seriously tough out there. The mainstay of opportunities right now are in the growth markets.

Middle East, India and the Far East, and for experienced guys on biz jets, to an extent in Russia.

India mainly hires experienced Captains in order to train the new Indian pilots as do several Asian jurisdictions. But there are opportunities there. Also, in Europe, despite the issues, there are a few possibilities. As always, flexibility and willingness is a must!

Thinking about CTC Wings at the moment. Their pilot placement programme seems to be the best around and I don't mind waiting a year or two in a holding pool as long as a chance comes around eventually.

If I fail to get in, I could go the modular route and fly around Asia for a few years. Life could be worse!

yeah! sure!and what will you fly, boeing or airbus, lear or falcon???maybe a Gulfstream V....?
