how to get an airline job!!!

After a year and a half of wandering the wilderness of the airline market i finaly got my first airline job:ok:
for all those wannabees out there here is an insight of how to stand out from the crowd and get into that very expensive and really uncomfortable right hand seat.

The hard work started for me ,and everyone else on the morning i passed my initial IR in spain. it was an eventfull day - it was september the 11th 2001! What a start to my new career!

After graduating i sat in an office for 3 months sending out CVs in different fomats, multi coloured papers and offered to marry airline bosses daughters! Well the daughters didnt get a chance as their fathers were less than friendly in their replies so i continued the long and lonely walk.
Six months later and a brief stint as the worlds most qualified DIY assistant, i did the unthinkable and payed for a type rating on a shed of all things! after waiting 2 months to complete 9 hours on the thing (on account of it breaking down all the time) i sent out all those cvs agin now with a type rating! Again the airline bosses didnt want me to marry their daughters, or sons (i was really that desperate!) so i decided to gain as much airline experience as i could on the ground. i took that drastic step of mooving countries, swallowed my pride and became a baggage handler! it is there that i found my true calling- i discovered that i was realy good at annoying the pilots on turnarounds, and was quickly promoted in the company to chief cockpit botherer!
after 2 months the airlines were starting to give in to my unrelenting tourment and i was starting to get meetings and interviews.
then one morning i was woken up with the worst hangover in the world to the news that i had been offered a right hand seat with an airline! I could not believe it so much that i had to phone them back when i had sobered up to make sure that i had'nt imangined it!

so here i am, two months later, with over 70 hours on that wonderfull plane, the ultra modern Shorts 360! and all at the age of 21!

Getting an airline job in this day and age is not the certainty it was when i startied my training, but there are jobs out there. a type rating helps, sure, but airlines dont employ pieces of paper, they employ people who are hungry enough to go out there and make the job theirs!
so swallow that pride, get of your a:mad:e, and go bother that cockpit!

Thanks, PB

And many congratulations! Are you able to give us a few more details- who you did the 360 rating with, who you are working for etc? Or perhaps you'd rather remain secret- and fair enough.

All the best with your career.
