Jobs for Brits in Latin America?

Although I have not yet completed my ATPL, I was interested to hear from any members from Latin America. As a Spanish speaker, what chance would I have of getting a job over in Venezuela or Mexico? Particularly interested to hear from anyone in Peru. Furthermore, do Latin American airlines require FAA as opposed to JAA, or would either do????

Reido You must be joking. Half of the Pilot force in Latin America seems to be looking for jobs elsewhere in the world because of the bad economy and currency in that part of the world.

On another thread some naive Brit was asking about jobs in OZ! It seems to me sometimes that half of all people in Australia and New Zealand want to be Pilots. They do not need to import Pilots.

The only jobs overseas are in the Middle East and Far East. All other areas are generally the preserve of the local population.

Reido

Difficult. You would most likely need the right to live & work in said country; residence visas for most Latam countries are generally only issued to foreigners with existing jobs or job offers (expats, diplomats etc....)

Most airlines down there recruit from each other and the armed forces; they are badly run, and are incurring some sizeable losses (Lanchile & now Aerolineas being notable exceptions).

Definitely some lovely places to live in (Bahia, Buenos Aires & others), but difficult to get anywhere as an airline pilot.

Reido I take back what I said about no jobs in Latin America as I See someone wants a missionary Pilot in Brazil!! Guess Portugese would be more useful than your Spanish!!
