FAA 121 PiC MINIMUMS
Hi All,
Part 121 Pic Requirements(1) Meet all of the previous requirements; and (2) Have a minimum of 1,000 flight hours in air carrier operations as an SIC in part 121 operations, a PIC in operations under either § 135.243(a)(1) or § 91.1053(a)(2)(i), or any combination of these.3 Can anyone point to a rule that says this time must have been flown in FAA registered aircraft? I can't see anything about this in the rule. Cheers |

It doesn’t have to be in the rule. It says “under this part” which means the airline you are working for as a SIC needs to be certificated under 14 CFR Part 121. In short, only time flown for a US based airline counts towards the 1000hr requirements. You could have 1000’s of hours in N-reg aircraft but if the operator wasn’t certified under 135/121 it doesn’t count towards the requirements. Quickest way? Get on with the first Regional that will hire you, get your 1000hrs SIC, upgrade then start applying at your “destination” airlines while accumulating 121 PIC time. Can be painful as a 10,000hr PIC but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. |
Where do the legacy airlines set the bar?
Do they want the 1000hrs prior to you getting to them? |
