Check ride for a job after months of not flying
 

Hello everyone,

This is just a question that has been lingering in my mind and just out of curiosity i'd just like to ask anyone who's knowledgeable in this.

Basically how would it work should you be invited for a check ride for a job on a single engine plane e.g. 208b caravan. Is it the norm for companies to assess you via a check ride on the very first flight? how would it work should they invite a person who has not flown in months or a year? do they expect them to perform at their best on the check/first flight despite the rustiness?

Or is it more of the norm for operators to provide training on the given aircraft, 20-30h before the actual check ride which they would be examined on, in some cases ive seen that they would ask for a bond/deposit for the flight hours.

I'm asking because what if there are no training providers for the specific aircraft used for the company's operations. Would be interested to know your responses.

It's not a check ride for an endorsement, it's a check ride as part of the interview process. I'd be surprised if they let new folks on a C208B for an interview but hey, nothing surprises me in this industry any more.
All they'll be looking for is that you're not a muppet, you can fly an aircraft and that you do have a learning curve. They aren't looking for perfection, just competent with training ability.

Much more likely the "check ride" would be on a SIM rather than the aircraft, even in the case of something like a Caravan, as u actually need a class rating that have that. Moreover, during an assesment they would more likely look for skills based on the companys "normal" mission rather than kiss landings. For expample, if it would be IFR flight they would assess ur ifr knowledge and flying skills under IMC rather than how you handle the Caravan (and it can be done even on FNTP). If we speak about an already rated pilot the checking will be similar to the above. Anyway, after hired you would most probably have to do some flying unders supervision until you are released for single pilot operations.
