Fingers crossed there will be some financial help but by the looks of the recent vueling MPL at fte, this will cost upwards of 100k too

A320LGW 3rd Oct 2022 00:27

People should be thinking very long and very hard about going for this. Unlike a few yrs ago, you seem to be better off now with a standard f ATPL, it's far more flexible than an MPL with an airline that can and will pull the plug the second it no longer suits. We are also now in a recession thats only going to get worse.

Tread carefully guys, best of luck

The training cost according to the FTE Jerez website is £97k plus living expenses/travel during the type rating course.

I wonder how they will do the UK training for the IR outside UK airspace in the post Brexit world?

Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP 5th Oct 2022 22:11

What exactly are they offering here? A free Embraer type rating at the end of the course? Looks to me like they want to have their cake and eat it.

Has anyone applied for this and heard back yet?

SamPope5 2nd Nov 2022 14:22

I called them today and they said they ran an assessment last week. I never heard back, but the lady who answered the phone gave me the email of the lady who oversees the assessments, but she has a OOO alert until next week. I have had no communication since the successful submission back in early October so not sure whats going on as it looks as though interviews have begun.

cloud_surfing 3rd Nov 2022 12:17

Same here. Haven’t heard anything and online my application still shows as successful from the initial application in Oct. Yesterday they were already doing the assessment centre! Have asked them to look into why there’s been no communication

WarrenFlight 3rd Nov 2022 12:48

Sounds like a number of credible candidates have somehow slipped through the net. Do please follow this up as it is not acceptable from FTJ or BA.

SamPope5 3rd Nov 2022 17:38

So I just received a generic rejection email saying I did not meet the criteria from my initial application and never got the opportunity on assessments. Also spoke to a few lads who also did not hear back and have also just received the same email. At lunchtime, I got an email that told me the assessment team would be in touch Monday, but this email now indicates otherwise.

"Dear Candidate,Thank you for submitting your application for the British Airways Cityflyer MAPS.

As you may be aware, there have been a significant number of applications for this scheme, and the parameters required to advance to the following stage are highly competitive. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we are not able to progress your application to the next phase of selection."

Bit of a kick in the teeth and almost seems as if they are rejecting us to disregard a mistake they have made. I'd be interested to see if one of the missed applicants has received otherwise communication cannot see us all being ineligible for an assessment for the opportunity to self-fund an MPL....

+1 given the deep recession we’re about to enter.

Oh, 100% with you on this one. BA has an endless history of changing its direction about its desire to retain wholly owned or franchised associate companies. One day in the not too distant future as the recession takes bite, it's highly likely that they'll dump Cityflyer with the blink of an eyelid and all you'd be left with is an Embraer rating at best or more likely an incomplete frozen ATPL. Boeing or Airbus ratings will keep you employed for probably the whole of your career. Just an opinion from an old Captain who's paddled backwards through the rapids a few times yet still managed to retain employment.

I had to experience this first hand to truly believe it. Covid hit and I had a non A/B rating. Even as the industry picked up it was a totally useless rating on an aircraft that is actually well known and “popular”. No matter what I tried or where I applied, nobody was interested. Airbus/Boeing was all anyone seemed to be after. They preferred cadets with no rating than you with your non A/B rating!

Hello all,

Is there anyone on here who applied this year? I had my interview with FTE 2 weeks ago and I’m still waiting to hear from them. I was wondering if anyone has heard back yet.
