Need advice for landing first pilot job
 

My relative from Colombia, who attained most of his training in the US is struggling to land first pilot job. He doesn't have a bachelor's degree which as I understand disqualifies him from the US jobs. But he is willing to take any legitimate job anywhere in the world to get started. Any advice where/how to start? He speaks perfect English and his qualifications are below. Thank you!

FAA License:
* Private Pilot single engine
* Instrument pilot
* Commercial pilot single engine
* FCC radiotelephone operator permit

Colombian License:
* Commercial pilot single engine
* First class medical certificate

380 hours Total flight time.

The big stumbling block will be their (lack of) right to live/work in a country outside of Colombia. It is generally quite difficult to attain this right outside of your home country and most companies can't or don't help with this due to the costs (both time and money) that are generally involved with trying to arrange work permits/visas etc.

The pay is pretty crap until you make captain, the days long, the conditions can be challenging and management is "interesting"... but the flying is awesome and you can get a lot of hours and experience. They always have a lot of applicants, so it can be a bit "hit and miss" as to whether they bother responding to an application... and they'll probably make you jump through hoops and pay for things like online tests, trips to Indo for interview/sim etc. but it is an option.

Otherwise, perhaps have a look through the Botswana thread (https://www.pprune.org/african-aviat...ial-guide.html)... again, this is GA-type flying (light single engine aircraft)... and is somewhat seasonal... but I know that some of the folks who are currently working there are relatively active on that thread and can offer up to date information.

Try MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). It's a UK HQ'd Christian charity but they recruit pilots (CPL/IR) to fly in many third world countries ; Africa/South America et al. They fly mainly Cessna Caravans, oh and of course the candidate will need to be a committed Christian as it is a missionary based organisation. A chap I know couldn't get into the airlines in UK but was hired by MAF to fly in New Guinea. He loves the life and the challenge.
