CTC Selection
 

Hi everyone, I have my selection date next Wednesday with CTC, been reading up on it as much as I can and the aptitude tests seem to be the easy part, what really worries me is the interview.

Everywhere I look people say that you should have knowledge of CTC as a company as well as knowledge of the airline industry, my big problem with this is knowing what I should be reading up on, airline industry is such a broad term, I was hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction with some good relevant literature.

A quick Google search will bring up most of what you're looking for. Or a search on PPRune for that matter. You're certainly going about researching it the right way in asking advice but to save many of the members fingers from typing out massive essays on here, check out some cadet blogs. That's what I did back along before starting at CTC and in fact, you'll find more accurate answers on them than you will on here IMO.

As for the industry... well, do some current reading on affairs. i.e. Monarch (what happened with them recently and why). Perhaps what's the larger cause of Monarch and other carrier woes? i.e. Tunisia, general warfare, oil prices. German Wings, easyJet fatigue, that type of stuff is what they mean by that. As for CTC: who owns them? What could new owners mean for CTC?, What aircraft do they have?, Where are their training centres based?, who have CTC/L3 acquired recently (you can find that on L3 and CTC website news sections). Just about digging for treasure really. Show you know your stuff in the interviews :-)

If it's a good old two-part interview, there'll be a motivational section, and a competency section.

For the motivational part, it's about showing you're motivated enough to give it your all, and complete your training. When I had mine, they asked me why I wanted to be a pilot, how a wing generates lift, how a jet engine works, if I had any interesting aviation-related news stories to talk about, and if I had any flying experience. Of course if you know your stuff, they know you're pretty motivated, but they could ask you anything.

The competency section is hard to give advice about, and being familiar with competency interviews, I knew what to expect, and the stuff they asked was plastered all over the Internet. Searching for "competency interview questions" on Google will sort you out, so you can plan accordingly. They want to see key competencies, which you need to complete the course and succeed in the world of aviation, like leadership, problem solving, same old stuff...

And be yourself, you just make a fool of yourself if you lie! :D
