"The aim of the Flight Instructor Higher Apprenticeship Scheme is to assist a successful individual to progress to Flight Instruction as a career by giving access to the highest skilled trainers/examiners in a Flight School teaching environment and covers all direct training and examination costs for the successful candidate as they achieve their unrestricted Fixed Wing Flying Instructor Certificate. The Apprenticeship provides an employment placement in the flight school for one year and will run from summer 2016.

I'd be interested, but the vagaries of converting from FAA have put me off.

Are there any people lurking who have completed it?

Yes, back in 2013, seemingly off the back of a drafting error in CAP804. Prior to that I had done an EASA CRI rating, and held FAA CFI/II ratings. I think the exact wording nowadays is 30 hours of ground training, plus 15 hours of flight training. My understanding is that an ATO can however recommend a reduced course to the authority (mine did back then), and then you would do that, and pass the skills test same as anyone else. The minimum level of pilot licence you would need, would be an EASA PPL, and you would be restricted to teaching LAPL/NPPL alone. If you pass the EASA CPL writtens, this will then allow you to teach the full-blown PPL course.
