Non Airline flying jobs
Hi all, finally taken the plunge for my first post.
I'm about to start my ATPL training, have a PPL already and was wondering if those out there who have worked flying in the non airline sector could offer their advice/experience in the variety of job opportunities that lie outside of the airlines, whether it be CFI, sightseeing pleasure flights or banner towing! Like most, airline flying has been my dream since i've been a youngster but part of me wants to go and do some 'proper' flying and not be an autopilot engager for the rest of my life! Worth mentioning aswell that i'm 19 so going half way around the world in pursuit of a job isn't an issue |

I was fortunate enough to fly in Australia before coming to the UK.
I have done part time instructing - not for very long. Bush flying - single engine, twin engine. You name it, freight runs, flying teachers/engineers/nurses to remote aboriginal communities, scenics over the Bungle Bungles. Coastwatch - twin piston flying. Low and slow around the Kimberly coastline in Australia. Regional airline flying. Various turboprops. Tropical islands, aboriginal communities, towns etc. In the UK. Night freight in the mighty Shorts 330 and 360. Now flying a business jet for a fractional operator all over Europe, Middle East, north Africa, Russia and Iceland. Haven't flown long range (yet) and haven't flown a Boeing or Airbus. |
Not exactly non-airline but...
I couldn't recommend the turboprop route enough! I appreciate it's generally 'slim pickings' but you won't regret it, most fun ever, it's respected and will set you up for the rest of your career.
Still a few around the UK but competition I'm sure is very high...If non-airline really appeals, I think FR Aviation still do calibration and Gama operate a great Scottish Ambulance service, all Beech 200's...I've always wanted to fly a BE20! Oh well...3 sector day on a B763 for me instead this weekend! |
Out of Europe
Any advices or leads for guys out of Europe?
I always loved flying, specially where there is more of a hand-on flying, and now got my CPL/IR and wanna see what's out there. Anywhere in the world is absolutely fine for me, as lomg as I can get a visa for it. |
Cheers guys for all the responses! All of the jobs posted here seem right up my street, especially Redsnail with the bush flying and the coastwatch!
It's a shame that most 'youngsters' like myself that i meet these days seem to be totally fixated on a Boeing/Airbus job when there's a whole world of 'proper' flying jobs out there!:ugh: (if you can get them that is;)) |
