ATR 72-600 Type rating - where ?
 

Hi guys,
I have a job offer on ATR 72-600 but I need a type rating.
I thought about sky blue for the type rating, but they don't do the 600 extention. ATR training center in Toulouse is too expensive. Does somebody know a TRTO to get a cheap 600 rating ?

Simtech are at present 72-500 sim only.

Very difficult to get -600 differences training, I believe at the minute -600 differences is only available through ATR training centres, I don't know of any "non-factory" TRTO that has a -600 approval.
Also was led to believe the waiting list of -600 conversions is several months as well.

Congratulations on the job offer. Have you asked the airline offering you a job about their preferred training providers?

Be aware if you do a 600 only TR, you would need a whole new TR to fly the classics. Might be worth considering if you feel this job is not 100% stable etc otherwise you could paint yourself into a corner.

I thought that the type rating was the standard ATR 42/ 72 rating with a -600 differences course completed after the basic rating. The standard type rating is easy enough to arrange but the differences courses are few and far between with long waiting lists. Therefore anyone with a -600 differences course can also fly any other variant of ATR.

Most people would do a classic 42/72 -320 or -500 TR then later on or all together do the -600 diffs.

If however you just do a 42/72-600 TR, you cannot fly the -320/-500 'classics' with a differences course, you would need to do the whole 'classics' TR from scratch.

Fair enough I did not think it was possible to do a -600 rating from scratch, it would seem that the most sensible way to keep options open is to do the standard 42/ 72 rating with the -600 course afterwards.

I didn't know I had to complete a new TR from a 600 to a 500, it's good to know !
The company prefers ATR in toulouse but it is not mandatory.
