FTE Assessment day
 

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has been to an FTE assessment day recently. I'm wondering what sort of questions are asked in the maths and physics part of the tests. I have been using Pilot Aptitude Tests and skytest software to help me revise.

Revise the practice pack they sent you and you'll be fine. All the material in there is covered. Best of luck.:ok:

Thanks G-F0RC3. Just to add to my last post. what sort of apptitude test come up in the assessment. Is it pattern recognition, crosshairs, flying through boxes, matching colours and shapes and multitasking.

Only flying through boxes, cross hairs, pattern recognition all are included. The others you mentioned are not. A word of warning though, I would not practice these tests too much. It could prove to be a massive mistake. The cross hairs test is not the same and the flying through boxes is certainly not the same. If you have the aptitude, you'll be fine. Best of luck.

Really? so it not similar to the aptitude test held at CTC then? By the sounds of it, it seem you have done the aptitude test at FTE. Any chance you can elaborate on the crosshair test and the flying through boxes test funkyT111? it would be a great help.

Sure but most the information can also be found on this forum. I've never done the ctc assessment but I have done the FTE ones. The cross hair test on sky test is inverted. The one at FTE isn't. I.e left is left, right is right and pulling back moves the cross hair up. The flying through boxes is VERY sensitive at FTE and requires only very subtle movements of the joystick. Push too hard on the joystick and you risk losing control of the aircraft.

The SkyTest crosshairs test is counter-intuitive. Other parts of SkyTest are good though. I've flown through a fair few SkyTest boxes in the last six months. :p

Ahh okay i see, so nothing to surprising on that note then. I've been using Skytest to practise, and yes you are correct the axis are inverted but i just use the joystick backwards to counter this. It work but holding the joystick in reverse can be painful on your hand at times. Regarding the sensitivity issue with flying through boxes should hopefully be okay, I've been practising skytest on the most difficult level, which tends to be pretty fast. Hopefully everything actually goes well.

No, but we both will be in the future.

My assessment is this week 23-25th april. Hence all the questions!!
Awesome its a tough world out there in aviation. I wanted to do my commercial license years ago but i thought id get a degree first just incase things don't work. Beats being in retail for the rest of my life....

When are you guy looking to start your commercial license?

I'm also looking to apply to CTC at some point just to see if i can get in that way i have a choice of two school!

Kalsh for what its worth, if you are willing to spend that amount of money I would be opting for CTC. They have much more tagged schemes, and seem to have cadets entering Easyjet on a frequent basis. FTE isn't the school it once was in my opinion.

I've been looking at both FTE and CTC closely on this forum and asking a few people that I've gotten to know through friends, most have said CTC is the way to go, but this is after i had booked my assessment at FTE. Like i said in my previous post I'm looking to apply to CTC. I'm just taking FTE as a practise assessment day to hopefully prep me up for CTC, but if i get into both then it will be CTC i reckon.

Thank you, i think ill still try CTC, their holding pool for pilots seem attractive to me. However, when i was at FTE talking to a few instructors and students they go if you do well in exam get top marks they do recommend you to airlines when jobs become available, but i don't know how much to read into that. They did give me a statistic of how they sent 20 pilots to airlines just last month.

Hi kalsh! I am going to FTE assessment in 21 sept and I was wondering if you could tell me what sort of questions were asked in physics and math tests? (was it just mental arithmetics?)(elementary physics?).
I have been using Skytest too, will it be enough?(what sections should I study?) And I would really appreciate any hints (general, about interview etc.):)

I attempted the tests last year. The prepack that they send you is a pretty good indicator of what to expect, but it doesn't necessarily cover everything. If you can do GCSE Maths and Physics with ease, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Don't underestimate the verbal reasoning test though, that test can be very tricky. Spend some time practicing verbal reasoning tests along with the advice given above and you'll be fine. I'll probably see you there!

I've did both CTC and FTE tests before. Got offered both CTC wings and the FTE course.

In my opinion FTE was much more difficult in terms of maths and physics. Be careful with skytest; sometimes the pilapt doesn't necessarily reflect what's on sky test (for example, left joystick movement will turn the screen left, but on pilapt left will have an opposite input... if that makes sense...)
