Thoughts please. Not entirely sure working for free for 18+months before any training commences is for everyone.

Look at it another way...

You spend 18 months learning about the company you're making a career with, achieving a much greater understanding of the business pressures as well as the operational ones facing the airline.

If fiscal matters are of concern, please dont quote me but im sure this scheme retains the tradition of being a FUGLY one (FUG's being flying undergraduates), the name a hangover from when atlantic, atlantique and RVL were all one company. As a Fug you are accomodated with the other fugs, and given what some would call pocket money (a friend got £400/month). I know thats not a huge amount, but for 18 months it's beer/food money!

Finally......more hours (if required) cpl, ir, multi, night (if required), Atp type rating. Easily tipping the scales at £45k for 18 months of hard graft, equating to a salary of 30k p.a. that you get as a lump at the end of your 'internship', flying in lieu of notes!

I can understand your hesitation but in the current economic climate it is an excellent opportunity. The Cadets already on the scheme are hard working, extremely well motivated to learn, cheerful and talented (no I do not work for West Atlantic).

I would caution you against applying for the scheme if you retain any doubts, the competition for places is very high and lack of commitment will soon be picked up in interview.

And usually how long after being hired does the "job" begin?

I am not sure. That's why I'm asking. But some places write to you and also ring you just to make sure you know you have an interview or assessment.

I applied. You should hear back via email and letter in post in the next week or so.

Any ideas what the stages of selection/assessment might be?

An acquaintance of mine received the invitation to the group selection via E-mail last Monday afternoon and subsequently a letter in the post the following Tuesday/Wednesday.

I heard from ProPilot that the selection happened this tuesday. Anyone lucky enough to have been there?

I was there, first group assessment for me, so was a really beneficial experience.

If your interested keep an eye on Propilot's site for when they are open for applications again, which hopefully will be in the not too distant future!

The day consisted of maths/physics tests (GCSE level), ppl theory based test,talks and tours of scheme and site, group exercises and informal interviews.
Oh and lots of tea and coffee :)

But all in all a good experience!

I know a few guys who went through the scheme, all be it a while ago now, yes they were worked hard and did lots of crap jobs,but the training they received was second to non and they went on to or are going to go onto great careers in the industry.

My advice to anyone looking at the scheme is grab it with all appendages !

Also, if you are going to do some of your training with Propilot ,then again grab the chance ,it will be one of the most interesting and enjoyable times of your career. ;) :ok:
