Cx cadet

hi guys, I am from HK and applied for the CX cadet programme. I received a rejection email a few days ago but I was never summoned to any interviews or tests. :ugh:
I was very shocked!!! Anyone had the same experience?
I am a law grad with masters. I did not do science subjects in Alevels and I put down that I don't know how to drive.
Thanks!

Why shocked,is not a God given right to a interview/test,perhaps they thought your application wasn't strong enough at this time.Be humble, and review what you wrote, ask for help and maybe you'll spot what has gone wrong, then show some resilience and reapply in a year time. They will like the fact that you took your time to review your mistakes and improve on it.
Some people will perceive your "shock" as an arrogant approach to it,as you really believed they HAD to give you an interview, makes people wonder what you wrote on those application questions. Not giving you a slap on the wrist, but Take it as a learning curve and get on with it :ok:

I was called for an interview back in 2009, but back then the scheme was open to international cadets and therefore the assessment was in London. However, I filled in the application in the summer and did not receive the interview invitation till the following year.

I did no technical A-levels, despite that I did not do A-level. I did an equivalent to A-levels and did not do too well in my GCSE's but I worked hard to get into University to study Computer Science.

Anyway, I worked hard on the application form and added all my work experience and extra curricular activities. I also sent my answers to get checked by different people for their suggestion and grammar correction.

I guess you might have made a spelling mistake, answers were not strong enough or not the type of person Cathay Pacific are looking for.

thanks!

Yes i understand but i've never heard of anyone getting a rejection before even given a chance of interview or tests.
Do you think doing a Alevel on science subjects would improve my chances? As I am not a science student back in secondary school and I am a Law graduate.

You said you're a law graduate, with a Masters degree right?according to your posts, should I assume you went straight from school to higher education, and you've never worked before??because for you to say that "I never heard of anyone getting a rejection before even given a chance of interview...",It sounds like this is the case.

People get rejections letters before interviews all the time and in many different sectors not only aviation. There's a reason why the application process is set up in the first place...this is common sense dude, you want to be a pilot so you'll need to start thinking "outside the box".
If there are 10 slots, with 1000 applications, with the intention to narrow it down to interview the 100 best applicants, and your CV/cover letter or application form wasn't strong enough to make it into the top 100,you wont be called...
I just can't believe we are explaining this to a Master's degree graduate....:hmm:

So,like it was said before, take the "humility" pill, start the application/CV from scratch, and get someone to cross check it before submitting. With higher education I don't see why you should re-do A levels being a post-grad,the whole point of the degree was to show your commitment and overall intelligence.Search the forums and get some ideas as to what to do next.:ok:

@ gardkwok

A bit of friendly perspective, You have no automatic right to an interview no matter how many letters you have after your name. Having a degree(s) doesn't mean your are cut out to fly, nor does it mean you fit the right candidate profile of a Cathay pilot (its their company, they can pick and choose whoever they see is fit)

People being rejected before being called to an interview happens all the time in this industry and others. You just have to accept it and move on I'm afraid.

Cathay has deemed that you are not the right fit for them. It could be for anything, even possibly you are over qualified. But what ever the reason, this opportunity was clearly not for you.

Try someone else or another route.

:ok:

No I have worked for a year. What I meant was from the many friends of mine and their friends I have never heard of anyone with this situation.
They seemed to be given a chance first.
Of course I know it happens. That's why right from the start I was asking if anyone had the same experience so I could talk to.

maxdrypower 16th Jan 2013 13:58

Really?

You are saying everyone you know who has applied for a pilot job has got it first time??? You have never heard of anyone in this situation ??
Well I can pretty much guarantee 95% of the folk reading this have been rejected from some sort of flying job . It is commonplace in this industry to hear nothing whatsoever from a job application . I have applied to Cx twice in the past and have to this date never heard a thing . shxt happens.
Perhaps it is your motivtion to be a pilot that is in question . A lot of companies are keen on this . You did not study relevent subjects at A level and did a law degree ? none of that smacks of a person commited to a career in aviation ????????????

Flying Mechanic 16th Jan 2013 14:30

Go and do a PPL, and re apply in a years time, show them you are keen on aviation.

Stallone 19th Jan 2013 09:37

improve yourself, do something that can boost your CV

then re-apply
