which type rating is preferred and which schools
 
Hi, i am thinking of getting a type rating done as i cant see any hopes for job without it. Can anyone suggest which type rating would be the best for jobs in India. Also which schools will provide the best training in a lesser cost. thanks!

The A380-800 is a very good type rating because it shows you can fly the biggest airplane in the world. :D

I remember this question already being asked once and someone had suggested "the space-shuttle", however I'm not sure it is possible to selffund as only NASA gives it. The upside is that you are sure you'll have a job once completed. Downside is most probably if NASA goes bellyup, no other carriers fly this type and you'll be back to square 1.

The Space Shuttle was retired 21 July 2011. :). Best to just stick with the A380 type for now.

Bought a A320 TR, hired a ex-Spanair training captain, bought my own A320, done some general handling over a reservoir and some low level navigation. Clocked up 500 hours and now captain at British Airways. Worked line a charm.

Do they take someone with a TR with no hours on type?

So you are looking for a job and you're a Captain for BA ?

What year did you pay for your your own TR ?

How long did you spend in another carrier before getting into BA?

What was the time frame between getting that much sought after F/O position with your freshly minted SSTR and being upgraded to Captain?

Please go ahead and give the details before you tell wannabes that throwing thier money up against the wall is the road to riches and a career in BA, because right now, they'd get better odds at a craps table with their money.

to respond to OP-question :

The Dassault Falcon 2000 and the Hawker 900 XP seem popular jets in India's rising GA market nowadays.

FlightSafety offers TR courses, but they don't come cheap. It seems like folly to invest that type of money without having some assurance that an air charter or private company would hire you afterwards.

Best starting point would be to talk to some of the (chief) pilots at those operations and see what they say about junior FO requirements on their crews.

I think that bit might have been a subtle clue that he was extracting the urine...
for sure, but the problem is wannabes are already in a state of confirmation bias and latch on to even sarcasm as proof that its all a worthwhile investment.

you have to bear in mind that a lot of the noobs have not been exposed to the industry in the way that many others have and the predominant exposure is the FTO's sales pitch of the impending pilot shortage.

I flew for 8 years, getting paid with my CPL before I ever needed a type rating. I have no sympathy for anyone complaining about the job prospects without self funding a type rating or line training as no one hires without a type rating. What a load of :mad:.
