Aer Arann Type Rating
 

Hi all,

I recently contacted Aer Arann regarding their type rating course on the ATR 72.

They sent me a course itinerary and a list of airlines who actually fly the ATR.

Obviously, the money involved is substantial, so I was really a bit worried that they didn’t mention anything about a job with them at the end of the course, and the fact that they sent a document showing a list of other airlines who fly it kind of suggests that they do not want me to feel like they will owe me any job at the end of it all.

Can anyone give me some advice on this?

If I do this course, would I end up being just Euro 17,000 out of pocket and still jobless?

I am looking for my first job, and would really like to see some light at the end of the tunnel having spent so much money.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated; I had a look on other threads but nothing really deals with my question.

I can't really give you a great answer. I know two guys that got in with Aer Arann in January. They went for the interview straight after MCC and couple weeks later where into the TR course. They didn't wait long at all after coming out of the course to be flying passengers. I haven't had a chat with the about there pay but they seem to like it.

I know it's not really what you asked but just thought i'd put a bit in anyways.

Did you just call up and they gave you all the info? I sent my CV and cover letter in about 2 weeks ago by post haven't heard anything

If a thread on another forum is to be true, then 10 people have just resigned from Aer - perhaps call them again and say your happy to work for them but this time tell them to pay for your rating and give you a decent salary - if true, there gonna need people !

wait maybe 6 months, and they will pay you everything, included TR.

whats wrong with all of you willing to pay to work, are you nut?

Thanks for the info on this; still undecided as there is absolutely no guarantee of a job at the end of the day.

Probably not the smartest thing in my opinion. Without even getting into the whole pay to train issue questions I would be asking myself are:-

- who operates ATR's and what are their hiring requirements eg: is a fresh type rating and no hours any use?
- do they hire from their own TRTO?
- what are the job prospects with Aer Arran at the end of the course? Even if there was a job have you researched what it would be like working for them? There are extensive posts in the T&E forum on their ongoing woes/pay cuts/rostering etc.
- If you came to Ireland then understand that we are bankrupt and have some of the highest direct and indirect taxes in Europe, if not the world. From what I gather the pay at AA is pretty low to start with but with all of the levies and stealth taxes nevermind the cost of petrol/diesel this place is getting ridiculous.

aer arann are running the coarse with simtech. when tr is finished base training is done with aer arann . after that your finished completly with them unless they are looking for pilots. most who do the coarse will never hear from aer arann again. sorry to burst your bubble but they are only trying to keep the new sim in simtech going as it would be only used by aer arann now and again as there is little demand for recurring training with a small airline

Look, from my side I can tell you do not do it!!!not on ATR,I have friend with more than 1000h on atr that are going to work in philippines for 3500usd a month.... and to go there you need 500h on type... so as you can see it is not a good investments, if Aerarann offer you a job it is ok otherwise do not do it, it is a waste of money believe me.

I am a current ATR driver working many miles from home :* I have to agree with Emmma....life is hard out there, even those of us with '000's on type are not finding it easy to find a job. SAVE your money keep IR/MEP current if you can, if not SEP, and pray for all of us that things improve. But dont be put off the ATR great machine to fly!

Out of interest, has anybody out there actually gone through the Aer Arran TR who wants to give the facts?
