What would you do...?
Hi
I have been doing a lot of research into becoming a pilot and I'm sure it's what I want to do. I have just been asked for an interview for Flybe's MPL course. The problem is flying a dash 8 for x years while i pay off (through my flybe salary) my dash 8 type rating, doesn't sound that appealing. But I know that the biggest risk and obstacle to getting into the industry is getting your first job. So am I being too picky / ungrateful, or should I hold out for a possible mpl course with Easy or someone else and risk not getting any job... ever? What would you do? Please feel free to berate my ungratefulness... I'm just being honest with how I feel. Thanks |
I thought flybe funded the rating and bonded you?
'Flybe will also cover all costs associated with the initial type rating training required to endorse the Dash 8 Q400 aircraft on the selected candidates Commercial Pilot’s Licence' |
I'd take it like a winning lottery ticket. You'd be an idiot to turn down a job in this market, just read all the threads from people who are fully trained 2-3-4 years down the road and cannot even get an interview. To get far in this industry you first need to get experience, start low and work your way up.
Remember you've only been given an interview for training, so depending on where you're coming from (Singapore?) it might not be worth your while, however, if you do go and get offered the sponsorship, I'd take it with open arms. |
dont miss such opportunities. they're offering you a secured position, there can be no good reason to turn down this opportunity, spend your own money in training and then fool around for a job.
go with that, and dont even give a second thought to it. |
Attend the interview?
If you get an offer on the back of that, then you can turn it down and spend the rest of your life looking into the sky and wondering why you didn't take a chance. |
I would take it. Never turn down an opportunity hoping for something better to come around.

If flying a Q400 does not float your boat, than don't go to the interview. Let someone who wants to be a Pilot go.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I fly a 737, yes its great, but so is flying a Cessna 172. All flying is good flying. Jet aircraft are not the be all and end all.:E |
As said before you'd be an Idiot if you turn down an offer like that.
