The difficulty with online applications
 

Hello everyone

I'm having problems (and not for the first time I might add) with attaching scanned documents to an onlne application form. On the one company website it says I've exceeded my 1mb limit and all I did was scan my Class 1 medical.. I wont even try to attach a photo they requested as that will most certainly be more than 1mb.

Any ideas would be great.

Normally if you scan your document, you should be able to change your settings in your scanning software.

Ok thanx. I suppose that means reducing the resolution to reduce the size. I'll give it a try.

My new printer/scanner/fax combo (a £120 Epson solution) allows one to scan as PDF. They come out as less than 200KB each when scanned using 150dpi.

Failing that, an A4 scan at 150dpi when saved as a JPEG would typically be 300-400 KB.

I have found the solution as well. For those who need it, here is what I did. I saved the original adobe pdf file of my class 1( 1.7mb). I then used my "pdf creator" software which I forgot I had (for those who dont want to splash out on the full price of adobe writer) which is really a printer of sorts, selected print and chose pdf creator instead of my canon printer and then save it under pdf creator as a new pdf which somehow ended up as 700 kb i.e. half the size. long winded way but hey...

I'm so useless with this sh1t...

If your format is still too large then you may consider converting it to something different.

On line there's a ton of free software that lets you convert from .jpg to .bmp and everything in between.

Use Microsoft office picture manager, its free and i am sure it is found in any computer that has Microsoft office. Open your scanned document in it and go to edit your picture option. There you can set your dimensions and can reduce the size of the picture below 1 mb. If you still cant do it, just find a guy who is good on computer i am sure there are many around!

FWIW I inserted my scanned documents (1.9mb) into a blank powerpoint presentation which reduced the size to 560kbs. Seemed to work well.

Make sure you have a free PDF converter on your computer.

1. Scan, save as JPEG or TIFF.
2. Put into MS Powerpoint as a picture.
3. Crop, resize etc etc. Put other bits of your licence on the same page.
4. Right click the pictures and select "compress"
5. Print your "presentation" as a PDF.

PDF file created will be about 2-300K per A4 page.
