Even If You Have Done The Assessments At FTE And Passed Them, You Are Still Required To Attend Stage 3, Which Basically Means You Need To Do Part Of The Assessment Again.

I Understand At OAA It Was Different.

copywrite33 8th Mar 2010 00:55

Has anybody heard if they are through to round 3?

I am semi assuming that because it is just over a week away that i haven't made it through? Did you find out via email or snail mail?

Put1992 8th Mar 2010 15:25

No news yet, however you are apparently informed if you aren't succesful at any of the stages.

Are we to make our way to Exeter at our expense?

Put1992 8th Mar 2010 18:58

Are we to make our way to Exeter at our expense?
I can't see them paying out for travel expenses to be fair!

copywrite33 8th Mar 2010 19:41

No i guess not but equally i live in Scotland and at the moment is gonna cost me £250 to fly down, i guess it is one of those things and i want it so badly i will pay it but a little bit more notice would have helped the old bank balance a bit!

checkxp 8th Mar 2010 23:32

I can't see them paying out for travel expenses to be fair!
I'm sorry but this is absolute bull

I just went for an interview at Airbus, and I have a friend who went for one at Rolls-Royce and QinetiQ, and they paid not only for the travel up to Bristol (and Salisbury), but also for the overnight stay in a Hotel!!
And at the end of the day they don't ask you for 76k, like flybe does, but they pay you for the job you might get full stop.

I think it's time to wake up people... Don't just give away more and more if you want to keep the Pilot profession as a respectable one. We'll soon earn less than bus drivers, and that is very scary for passengers, pilots and their families!

Moreover, FlyBE has got routes from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Exeter, they could at least give you the fare, and let you pay the tax if it's to go to one of their assessment centre.

I think it's really disgraceful and disgusting to tell you that you're gona spend 76k to be able to work with them, and they won't even pay for your tea when you come to the interview, how can anyone see this as FAIR!!!

In my opinion, I think a boycot of the assesment centre would be a big wake up call for them, if everyone that wasn't sponsored to go to Exeter would suddently 'not be able to afford the travel!'. Obviously I guess that'll never happen :*

This really saddens me and pisses me off at the same time that they'll get away with it, and next year they'll be able to take something else off..... etc etc. :ugh:

I hope that most people in this forum agrees with what I'm saying!

Put1992 9th Mar 2010 11:10

I wasn't debating whether I agree with it or not, I was stating that it was never going to happen. If you feel so strongly about the travel expenses, what is a £35 return coach or a £60 train for me, don't go.

The industry isn't how it was, and never will be. It's just tough titties if you decide to get involved with such an industry.

Cheers, Put.

checkxp 9th Mar 2010 21:32

well I said that, because you said "to be fair!" in the end, so no it's not fair!

And my question is what's it to them, a 30 quid train fare.

I would probably Hitch-hike cuz I think it's even more eco-friendly, but I would think they could support people who live a bit far away, like Scotland for eg. to be able to get a standby ticket within the flybe network, that sounds very fair to me! they don't have to pay anything, and they don't loose out since you're in standby as long as you pay the taxes.

I'm going to apply at the next round unfortunately because I wasn't able to attend the first assessment centre, so there was no point in me applying.

Good luck to you all in any case... x

Anyone Heard Back Yet?

Bealzebub 9th Mar 2010 23:31

Well if the thought of shelling out A couple of hundred pounds for a train or plane fare and a night in the local Holiday Inn is causing so much angst, it might be better to drop the idea straight away.

If you are sucessful the interest on the amount of secured borrowing you will require will amount to around £330 a month before you have begun to add in the capital repayment costs let alone any living expenses.

Regard it as just a tiny taster of what will be happening every 20 days in interest alone. Only play if you can afford to lose.

checkxp 10th Mar 2010 00:58

It's exactly my point though. People are just accepting that pilots, and especially young people who have dreams, are being exploited by big multi-nationals that make millions of pounds of profits, and try to cut down cost where it's easiest (the people who work for them) to be able to take a few pounds off passenger fares.

That's the big issue that I'm really worried no-one seem to realise here. And to come back to you Bealzebub, I know that you're in for a big debt at the beginning, but the least they could do I think is to show you that they care just a little bit about you. It seems to me that I will work for a company that will just take anything they can away from you, and that's not the kind of people I would want to work for.

Like I said earlier, Airbus, RollsRoyce and lots of other graduate jobs company will at least pay for your passage to the assessment centre so that you get a positive image of them, and it proves that they invest in people and not profit!!!

checkxp 10th Mar 2010 01:10

And a socialist as I might sound, I am not at all, I just think that if everyone puts in a little bit of effort, the world would be such a better place to live in.

I am doing graduate studies, but that doesn't mean I didn't give a taste at the lowest levels of jobs you can get. I worked as a baggage handler for 2 summers, I built concrete sleepers (for train tracks) another time (very very dirty and heavy labour, much more than baggage handling!). I also prepared ready meals and worked for an industrial bakery as a temp. I have lots of experiences in at the lower level, and I can see that some people at the highest ends don't seem to really know what's going on in the company they work for, and that's why we get situations like this.

I really hope that people will realise that flybe is using most you, and keeping all the cards in their advantage, just by giving you a "false" joker but pretending you are being partially sponsored. Well here's the news, you're not, they lend you the money, and you have to pay it back on a crap salary.

I must say that it's not as bad as I make it sound, because there are some advantages in the scheme in terms of taxes and no interests in the loan, but throughout your training they reserve the right for themselves to not take you for any reason at the end of your training and you'll still end up with 76k debt and an MPL (less widely accepted than ATPL).

I just think it's a pitty because it really looks like a pretty package from outside, but inside, it's not too far off the standard "Oxford Integrated and finding a job on your own" training.

If you have any comments on what I said, do not hesitate to prove me wrong, because somehow I wish I was.

Best of luck.

Sorry but i completely disagree.

They are offering you an opportunity to work for them but you are financing that opportunity to the tune of £76ish grand without interestand as checkXP mentioned at any point can they turn around to you and withdraw the offer of employment. The least they could do is throw you a standby ticket, which as mentioned, has very little financial effect on them.

The original point I was trying to make was that I WILL pay however much it costs to get to that interview because i want this badly, however it is now the 10th March and if memory serves me correctly (the page has now been taken down so i can not check) the interviews are scheduled for the 16th no-one has heard either way if they have been offered an interview, maybe we are all the unlucky ones and they aren't informing all candidates of rejection and nobody that has got an interview has piped up yet?

I am in the position where I don't have a job and my degree is fairly flexible to allow me time off when needed but there must be a few people that applied that require a day or 2 off work to go to the interview.

So the point i am trying to make is that surely a rather large company could give people more than 6 days notice of an interview? Like i said maybe we are the unlucky ones and haven't made the cut but personally i would like to have been told instead of :ugh:, wondering whether or not to book a flight i may or may not need as the prices are rising daily.

copywrite33 :

If you do get accepted, I would suggest you to call them (Flybe's HR department) and try to discuss your situation, that you got a response quite late, and that you have to fly with Flybe and pay 300quid to get to their assessment centre. They are very nice on the phone, and it should affect any of your performance, since the people on the phone are genuinely there to help you. You can then try to discuss and maybe suggest to them to give you a standby ticket.
In the end, you might work for them, so they'll probably consider it seriously.

Hope this helps you.

Best of luck.

Put1992 10th Mar 2010 13:45

I'm through to stage 3 of 4 by the way guys.

I think the nail has been hit on the head really

I fully appreciate and consider all the points made about the way the industry is, and how people are willing to pay out to be part of this industry.

copywrite33 10th Mar 2010 14:06

Put - When did you find out today or at another point in time?

induced_drag 10th Mar 2010 14:29
