ME/IR renewal
Need advice,
I hold a UK JAA License (FATPL). My ME IR renewal is coming up in February. Since I live in Sweden and hold a UK license, I wounder if I can do the renewal in Sweden and send it to the CAA and get it renewed. If it is possible, could someone tell me the procedures and what forms I need to download to get it accomplished. I'm in contact with a flight school in sweden (JAA approved) they just don't know what forms and papers I need for CAA. Thanks and happy new year to all |
Yes you can. Just go to the UK Caa homepage, look under publifications + forms and download a document called: Type/Instrument/Class Ratings (Aeroplane), Licensing/ATPL Skill Test and Proficiency Check - Application
Book your prof. check with the Swedish FTO, pass it, and have the examiner fill out the form along with the normal prof. check form. You then send the whole thing to UK Caa and things should work. Make sure you do a follow up to ensure they have gotten and processed your paperwork. Best regards |
But why posted here?

Flight Currency
Hey guys I'm new to this online forum business so forgive me if I'm putting my post in the wrong place.
Basically just finished all my flight training with approx 210 hours and was wondering what the general opinion was on keeping current in the way of flying; i.e. I was planning on trying to keep my instrument skills fresh with an hour in an FNPTII per month and an hour or so actual flying on a single or multi if money permits! Would just be interested in what other people in the same boat think is reasonable for the time being? Thanks, James. |
Hi James, i'm in the same boat but have let me IR/ME lapse as i dont see the point in forking out money to renew it when there are no jobs! I keep getting advice of good friends of mine in the industry, to leave it and just renew it when the market picks up! Theres a school in Madrid which charge €700 for the IR/ME which i'm gonna do mine at! In the meantime, i'm doing some flying in a PA-28 from Liverpool, and flying everything IFR.
|
M I right in thinking you can't fly any sort of IFR without a valid IR?
|
I think one is omitting something.
If your ME/IR is not valid, you can't be flying IFR at all on anything.
Perhaps you have renewed your IR on a single engine. That would explain a lot. If not, you better stop flying IFR¬! |
...unless you have an IMC endorsement because it will be valid 25 months after the test even if the IR expires in the meantime. Or so I seem to recall. Check Lasors.
But I seem to recall that an IMC is a 'get out of trouble' endorsement to your licence and doesn't allow you to fly IFR approaches etc. Best to check Lasors. :) |
Sorry i should've added that i got myself an IR for the SEP, and not the MEIR
