Charter Companies in Doha
 

Hi All

I will be in Doha over December and I would like to approach the charter companies in and around Doha. Does anyone know of any charter companies in Doha, if so please can they pass on their details

Thanks for the reply, I am recently qualified with a Twin Piston Rating. Idealy I would like to approach a company that may require a FO on say a turbo prop aircraft, I would be happy to pay for the rating myself.
I am currently working on my ATP subjects in South Africa and I would hopefully have these completed by March of next year. I am visiting my brother in Doha and thought it would be a good idea to see what is out there

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Man, what can one say to an attitude like that?!

And then everyone wonders why, or worse, whines about the crap conditions, and why airlines treat us like s:mad:t!:ugh:

I agree act700, so many newbies coming out of the McFlying schools are so desperate to make the immediate leap into charters/airlines that they are selling the rest of us out in the process.

15SQN I wish you all the luck in the world but IMHO consider looking for a job that you are more suited to with your current experience (eg. instructing, piston engine charters) and upgrading from there, rather than investing a lot of money with no guarantee of return on a turbo-prop type-rating. My 2 cents worth...:)

Thanks for your input here, I would be more than happy to fly a Piston Twin but where I am the job market is very tight. My intension with this thread was mealy to try get information about charter companies in Doha, so I could meet the people and perhaps one of them would say yes we have light aircrafts and we require low time pilots. I was also hoping for a meet and greet, letting them know I was looking and then keep in contact with them while I gained hours elsewhere.

Not sure what the market is like in NZ ( would love to fly there ) but here where I am it is really dead and I need to try every avenue. I have been looking for near on a year now and one thing I have learnt is that there are many charter companies out there, that I had never heard about, people with planes who may require pilots from time to time and the only way to find these guys is through contacts.

Act700 – I fully understand where you are coming from, there are enough threads here regarding this, I’m not looking to get an Airbus or Boeing rating. I know a few guys that have Twin IFR Com with all APT subjects that have been looking for over a year now. Perhaps you could offer some advise here, what should we do, instead of saying what we shouldn’t do, us low time pilots need all the advise we can get

Well let me make your life easy then mate - there are NO charter companies in Doha, the only piston twins belong to the flying college, and the only turboprops are very large 4 engine ones full of US special forces troops going into Al Udeid. Opportunities for low timers out here are zero, with the exception of Qatar Airways sponsored cadets.

didn't mean to "attack" you personally, rather venting frustration with the way this bus has deteriorated over the years.

You're not the first, and far from last, to be in the position you're in. Can I give you advice? I wish I could tell you a fix all way out, but I don't think I have that answer.
All I can tell you is to hang in there, and rough out this downturn. Once things start moving, especially at the top, then you'll see opportunities for yourself as well.

Why don't you get your instructor ticket? Apparently it is not too difficult to get here (JAR land) as compared to the land to the west.
Besides making a couple of bucks while you wait for those infamous "things" to start moving again, you'll get a few hours too.
More than anything, you'll get invaluable experience. Experience which all these kids going from flight school to the right seat of an airliner never got, and never will acquire!
Of course if you can get a MEP instructor rating, you'd get some of that precious multi engine time.

Your idea of networking is a very good one. It will no doubt help you down the road.
I don't know how it is over here, but when I was instructing and getting around with students, I ran into people at different airports, who later turned out to have leads, or could otherwise be helpful. It definitely lead to a few job interviews, as informal as they were.

So hang in there, don't get too bummed out. Like always, there'll be another upturn soon, I think/hope.:ok:
