Hmm...functioning well..yes. Taking on experienced pilots? No. Taking on any pilots...? My understanding is that some FTE guys will come through but expansion for next year looks to be very limited. No current plans to take on any experienced guys. Not sure where you got the new aircraft info from?

Definitely no DECs coming into FlyBe for quite some time. Fact!

Some people should read the flight ops newsletter more closely. It leaves the possibility of DEC as quite definitely open, and the recruitment of FOs will continue. I believe the last 16 recruits are approaching the end of their line training, and there are a few more to join in the New Year.

the newsletter was more some sort of hint for SFOs for their summer bid...and I'm sure at least of them won't be scared by Nessy...

Not to mention the latest seniority list, which has around 20 more names on it than last time. :ok:

I can’t think of many (if any) airlines currently offering this kind of opportunity to inexperienced pilots.

Hi Guys, I'm an FO in the hold pool at Flybe and have found the company excellent to work with. They offer continuous support and training despite the fact that I don't yet work for the company! Where else can you find that in today's airline industry? I believe there are around 20-30 of us currently 'swimming'.

I'd just like to ask some of the current Flybe pilots if they have heard of any movement? It's great news that Flybe are sponsoring some more cadets. Given this, can I assume that the decision has been made on the assumption that the hold pool will be empty before the 2010 batch finish their training at Cabair?

Hey guys I was fortunate enough to be offered a place on the PSAPS course at FTE through Flybe a year or so ago. Unfortunately for Financial reasons I chose a different route.

However I have to say the whole experience left me with very positive feelings about the Company and the help/support and opportunity offered for this scheme is about as close to a dead cert as you can get these days. (Not that anything in life is certain.)

The only sting for me was that even though Flybe were kindly knocking £20k off the upfront costs it was still rather expensive at FTE due to the Euro exchange rate at the time. However in many ways that £20k investment from Flybe offers something more than money, it's a committment to you, that they want that money back! and to do so they need to employ you!

Many will say it is not true sponsorship but that can be said of nearly all sponsorship schemes (when they still existed) whether you are paying the money back through your wages or are on a cadet salary.

Times are bad but this is an excellent opportunity with a great airline if you can get on!

They said in the email that the interview will be focusing on technical questions, knowledge of flybe, and motivation to become a pilot with flybe. Though they say it is an extended interview (not sure how long that is) I cant see they will base it all on factual questions, as they could have just given us an exam paper. It will be questions like "why do you want to be a pilot?", "how do you handle pressure?", "Issues facing the industry".

Read the annual report on their website. Know the fleet, just numbers, types, engines, speed, max alt. Number of routes etc.

Technical questions will be things like "how does an ASI work?", "how does an a/c generate lift?"

Im just going over my PPL1 book, as that will be sufficient for the level of knowledge expected.

And just relax, smile, be yourself, and be honest. It is very suprising how much they will affect your chances.

Thanks for the info FC86:ok:.. I've finished the essay and i'm now preparing for the interview (I think i've covered most of it, may need to focus in on technical questions a little more).

I'm not sure what the duration of the interview is, I would guess = 60min.

When is your interview?

I found phase 3 to be a real challenge and a successful one too:ok:, got my phase 4 on monday next week.... back to the studying...lol. How did you get on chap?

I was asked things like; How does a wing work? Explain a stall? Recoveries? What do flaps do, and how do they work? What sort of questions were you asked?

Congratulations mate! I made it to stage 4 too! My stage 4 is Tuesday afternoon, so I wont be seeing you. But hey, it looks like we will finally meet if we pass!

I got asked about the 4 forces, spin and spiral dives, recovery. How a jet engine works, and using this knowledge how a turboprop is quieter. Not sure if Tim told you or not, but he referred me to a website called Q400.com. Its all about that aircraft and I have found it very useful.

How are you funding the course, by the way?

The interview is very much the same as phase 3 i'm told with a few more HR questions.

Good luck next week both. It's been refreshing to hear about you guys progressing through the process successfully thus far (and making the final stage is an achievement in itself :D). There are so few schemes at the moment that its nice to see the dream is still alive somewhere and despite the downturn someone can still get that magic phonecall :). It's a hell of a feeling

I don't know Flybe's stage 4 but the other companies that I did it for were all similar to ea other and along predictable lines: talk them through your life or cv, what are your motivations, do you have the maturity to approach the training sensibly, what do you know about the company, could they sit next to you in a cockpit for a whole day, do you really understand the practicalities of the job you're going for (odd hours etc), how will you finance the training, name a couple of mistakes you've made, what are you weaknesses, maybe a situation which they'll ask you how you'd deal with (eg Capt smells of drink), what would you bring to the company, what is the 1st officer's role, team-working & leadership examples, what would your friends say about you etc etc

I didn't perform well at phase 4 mate.... and I recently found out that I didn't make the final 4:{, but I was offered the FI sponsorship with cabair, not sure what to do! How did you get on anyway, hopefully better than me??

Well mate, unfortunately, I flunked the final hurdle too. I wasnt 100% on the day, though I think it was a mental thing and I ended up being a bit more uptight than previous stages. The questions were quite searching too, and a couple of them totally stumped me.

What did they question you on?

I think the FI sponsorship sounds very good, if you have the odd 70k floating around. Which is certainly not the case with me! I asked them if they would be willing to offer me pre-selection for the instructor job, ie if I passed an interview before March 5th, then I will have been employed by Cabair before I train, following the principle of Flybe. They said they would make enquiries, but didnt mention it in the follow up email, meaning its not possible. So it will be foolish to rack up 70k of debt, then apply for the FI sponsorship after the course, and then not get it. What then? I may have risked it if the economy was not bad, but with no security (which is what Flybe would have provided) it would be unwise.

So it looks like it will have to be the modular route. Just waiting for some good weather to continue flying!

What are you going to do? Would you take up the FI sponsorship?
