God help Fiji!!

It's half of what your expecting and more than what you bargained for! It's beautiful and the people are excellent. Life is peaceful there if you live in the countryside but salaries are low and cost of living very high.
I don't need to tell you about anything that doesn't already exist in your part of the world, Fiji has 2 McDonalds outlets, one at each end of Viti Levu and the beer is mostly cold! Learn to smile and say Bula to everybody/thing!
That's the low down from my point of view, where you expecting more?? Hmm why don't you try flying in Hawaii? Sound's more like your kinda gig am I wrong?

You're thinking of going there? Do you know with which company? Air Fiji or perhaps one of the charters that fly to the resort islands?
Cost of living may be expensive depending on your salary. The rental market got a bit more affordable following the Dec 2006 coup d'etat. The coup hurt the economy quite a bit, but tourists have picked up again, which means more business for resorts and their charter sea planes.

As Walu said, say Bula and bula vinaka a lot, smile (you'll be pretty happy), and get a few bula shirts. It's a gorgeous place with the typical developing country combo of very up-scale (e.g. Denarau) and poor areas (a lot of small towns). Have you considered Seychelles or Maldives, or Hawaii as suggested? All are touristy islands with a couple of charter operatons.
