CTC experience

Hello, thought i'd share my experience of the testing day (I won't be reveling questions or answers) as i was a little scared of it! My overall impression though was that it was very relaxed and professional, the staff are very friendly.

Arrive at 0830 about ten of us all together

Brief and introduction lasts about 45minutes about CTC and programme 0900

short break 0945

Split into two groups one group goes and does the 2 group tasks, the otheer does the maths test then PILAPTs. Team exercises don't last as long as PILAPT so you will be out first waiting for them to finish and to swap around.

Team exercise is about an hour, PILAPT and maths about hour and a half / 2 hours.

After this you get the lunch you specified whilst waiting for results, she comes in and calls a list of names, takes them into another room and tells them.

Then its either feedback for those who failed (useful) and the interview (phase 3) for the ones who passed.

Depending how fast your seen, takes 30mins per feedback for fail, about an hour per interview, starting from about 1300/1400. You can ask to be seen first if you have to get train or whatever.

I believe that you get an email the next day on your results (also i think if you've come from another country, you'll have the phase 4 next day)

I finished at about 1600 ( i had a close fail)

Useful information:

Maths test: not overly difficult - multi choice scrap paper for workings
PILAPTS: Is a measure on how well you learn (and a bit on aptitude duh :))
Team exercise: read the word, TEAM (obvious?!)
Interview: practice interview technique

PARK IN RED BAYS (CTC)
Try and contact someone who has test with you so that you can share ride / book same hotel. (CTC social thread)

I recommend reading the following ( which will answer most if not all questions, don't be lazy and ask, show your dedication)

CTC WINGS website

And remember to look smart / good (there is a real hot receptionist)

I failed, but am actually quite glad i did. It gives me the opportunity to fully prepare for the interview ( i don't think i was that prepared) and to try and impress rather than scrape through.

I hope this helps to put all the fears away, and gives you the confidence to do well.
When i reapply i shall add on info about phase 4.

Hope this helps :ok: hopefully see you in NZ sometime soon!

comparison of navy FATs / CTC PILAPTs

Thought i'd just add as well that i did my navy FATs in November, and got a very high mark for everything. How do they compare to CTC tests?

I was more prepared for navy ones, didnt revise for CTC, they are much shorter but still difficult! Some were quite difficult to understand at first, and the reason i slipped up was because i linked the numpad to the boxes, not to the answers (eg 1 on numpad i thought was box 1 on screen, not the answer "1"
To clarify - 0 on numpad means the answer "0" eg 0 pilots. 3 on numpad means "3" eg 3 planes.
sounds obvious, but made me fail :( guess i didn't read the question thoroughly.

They are both similar, FATs more intense as they last a lot longer, but do have similar tests. I think i found navy ones easier, only because i am more logic/visual than logic/auditory ( and i didnt sleep that well :)

Amen brother!! :E

Sorry to hear you weren't successful this time around, it must be difficult having it all in one day. As long as you put the work in for next time im sure youll get through. Perhaps this should be merged with the CTC Wings Thread 2 though.

Gar 8th May 2008 10:34

Haha I hope to god that the receptionist reads this, and then you have to go back for a resit!

woskam 8th May 2008 11:02

Haha good point Gar. I've got to agree with carlortega though, best part of the selection process by far!

just appreciating the female form :)

She is extremely attractive, certainly calms the nerves first thing in the morning.

carlortega the time taken to post this information will be much appreciated by many who are soon to go through P2/3, but I think it should it be on the CTC Wings thread? It will ensure the info is accessible under one link and reduce the amount of fragments and pockets of information that may get lost over time.

Good luck reapplying.

yeah i did think to post it there, but considering it is a lengthy thread already I decided to make it a thread on its own.

If any of the moderators think it's better in there i don't mind it being moved!

Else it could be just an "after-thoughts" page for people?

(thanks for the luck :) )

preduk 8th May 2008 21:06

Doesn't matter, lol.

carlortega 8th May 2008 21:33

belongins 10th May 2008 16:07

'Fit receptionist..' - how old is she? I appreciate i am a lot older than you lot and arguably should know better - oh well

OMG I am well looking forward to going to do my phase 2/3 now :)

Carl when did you go?
I see the post is recent (8/05/08) but when did you actually go?

I am going next Tuesday - Got the date brought forward (cancelled meetings) which puts a bit of pressure on me but i tend to do better under such circumstances.

Bit worried about the pilapt tests but the maths should be fine i hope:)

rik2204 10th May 2008 19:51

I haven't booked for any hotel yet! i think i've lost the opportunity for a 'ctc discount'.. we can get there by the same taxi, write me where you'll stay.
I' m not confused about how is going to be that day,(this forum is really helpful, thank you all!!!!!)but i am absolutely scared of my not perfect english, i can't absolutely understand someone from scotand talking fast for example....really hope that that day i'll meet a lot 'globish' speakers...

preduk 10th May 2008 20:17

Not all Scots speak fast you know. Listen to someone from Liverpool, now they speak fast! lol
