Reading Material for a wannabee commercial pilot
Hey there
I pretty new to the forum. I'm currently studying Aviation Technology at Leeds Uni and working through my PPL(A). I'm up to Solo QXC! I wanted to ask what magazines and book people would recommend for me. My ambition is to get an fATPL through one of the integrated courses and end up as an FO. I really want to give myself the best chance of getting in to the likes of CTC, so I want to be very clued up on the whole industry as well as piloting. I have looked at buying Flight International, which is a weekly mag, but I'd just like to know if anyone thinks that there are better ones out there. Cheers Adam |
Flight international is good, also Flyer magazine. But more importantly, ATPL notes! :E
|
Viz magazine. :ok:
|
Redsnail, how about Nuts? ;)
|
Nah, my husband reads that. :E
I do also read Superbikes, RiDE and Bike. :ok: |
Buy yourself a copy of Flying The Big Jets by Stanley Stewart...
Then i'd buy Nuts/Viz/Loaded/Zoo |
Hustler :e

More seriously Checklist for Success and Flight Guide to Success, available for reasonable prices of Amazon.

The back pages of flight

This will help in giving you an ideal as to what you will be studying. Reading the notes is free, printing is disabled on the PDFs though (can't complain really!)

Buy yourself a copy of Flying The Big Jets by Stanley Stewart... Very informative book. I started off on that one, I do recall. Cheers Put |

For the nuts and bolts of actually getting the licences and ratings and some general sound advice you will find Clive Hughes's book very difficult to beat.

Hi Adam, I'm also at Leeds in my final year, not long to go now! Well done on ur solo QXC! I'm a management student so not flying with the uni but doing it privately at Multiflight and only up to solo circuits! I gather ur in second year, going on third?
In terms of reading material, Flying the Big Jets is a good book, gives u a pretty good idea of what a commercial pilot does. If you're planning on applying to CTC, they seemed to ask me a lot on teamwork and my past experience with leadership, conflict and personal acheivements so I suggest you make some time to reflect upon your past experiences for the interview. As for PILAPT, its pretty good fun, not too stressful. Maths is pretty basic. All the best Gary |
