Air League Scholarships (interview stage)?

Has anyone been through the interveiw stages with the air league previous to 2008 or even going this year, im 19 and would just like to know what type of questions they ask and what type of tasks we have to do in the apptitude test.

If you havent been through the process or have been through something similar with GAPAN ect, any advice for preparing for a scholarship interveiw, would be much appreciated.

Thank You

hey bigcheese.

I was lucky enough to win one of these scholarships back in 2004. Sure there are people with more recent experiences but from what I can remember we had an overnight stay in Cranwell, getting up very early to do some appitude tests. These were on a computer with a joystick and rudder pedals but I can't for the life of me remember what you had to do.
After this there was a lot of waiting around until your interview, and the guys who were going for RAF selection were also there waiting in the same room. I waited from very early in the morning until about 4pm. The interview wasn't too bad though (the waiting was worse!), the guys were pretty friendly, asked me about some past experiences and I think they mentioned CTC too. I was a bit concerned as most of the other applicants were Air Cadets (i've never been one) but my worries were unfounded. They just want to get to know about you, and your passion for flying really.

Sorry I can't be more help.
GOOD LUCK with it!

Does anyone have any idea when the winners are usually announced for the Flying bursarys from the Air league as well??

Hi,
I went down to OASC at Cranwell in February, the food is pretty good in the candidates mess, the lounge area is really comfortable, and the accomodation is nice too. The aptitude tests aren't really anything to worry about, as long as your mental arithmetic, especially speed/distance/time stuff is OK.

As i've already done OASC, I don't have to do the aptitude section of the Air League Selection, so i'm just going to Broadway House for an interview on the 26th, is anyone else going?

Im sposed to be down there on the 24th, although iv asked to go to cranwell, closer, cheaper, easier to get there.
It'll be a problem to get down to london for 11:15 in the morning from yorkshire!!!

Hi,

I was awarded a flying bursary from the Air League during 2008, which I used on an IMC. I didn't have to attend any formal interviews, all that had to be done was fill in an application form and answer some questions.

I'm glad I got through and passed, good for the CV.

Concerning the GAPAN Aptitude tests, I did those separately in the past, applying through GAPAN directly. The tests were done during 1 day and are not too difficult, I managed to get a high average result. They are useful for those who are yet to do a PPL, as they test your ability to do lots of motor skills all at once and hand/eye co-ordination. I seem to recall staying at Cranwell in a B&B before the tests the following day, rather than getting up early then arriving tired.

Hope this helps.
