ATPL Skills Test
Hi folks,
approaching that green licence and need to clarify a quick point. I have a course scheduled with a JAA TRTO for the ATPL skills test and from my estimates, I would not have reached 1500 hours before I take the test, I should be in the region of 1400 hours. Question is this, can I go ahead and take the test and then put in my application to the UK CAA after I reach 1500 which should be roughly another 6 weeks after the test? Thanks AP |
I am also aproaching unfreezing my ATPL. At my next LPC I should have 1400 hours plus and as such am expecting to be able to send my licence off for upgrade as the CAA state that you require 1500 hours, of which 100 may be completed in a ground based sim.
If you have 100 sim hours, my understanding is, you should be OK. |
AP the answers no, you must meet all the requirements before you undertake the ATPL skills test.
All you need to know is in the ATPL section of Lasors. |
I had just over 1400h TT when I took the skills test this year. As was mentioned I used the 100 hours sim time allowance to get up to 1500h. If you do not have the hours requirement on the day of your skills test the CAA will not accept your application.

What that didnt tell you chaps is that you have got to sit all your ATPL exams again, its a new requirement :E.

Oh well,
I think re-scheduling is the word. Thanks for the replies guys. AP |
In the case of a UK Licence the ATPL examinations remain current up to 7 years after the last revalidation of your IR. I have a UK CPL/IR and have passed the UK ATPL exams together with Perf A, C and E. As soon as I have the multi-crew aircraft rating on my licence I can apply to upgrade to an ATPL having successfully passed the skills test.

Cat3C,
Can you elaborate on the Unfreezing topic. You said that to unfreeze your licence, you need to take the 14 exams again??. |
Remember also that of the 100 hours sim allowed, only 25 can be in a FNPT. An interesting anomaly here, as LASORS states 25 in any FNPT. However on the form it has one row for FNPT1 hours and another for FNPT2/FFS hours. I stayed on the cautious side and only claimed 25 hours total for both FNPT 1 & 2.

The holder of a valid JAR-FCL CPL(A)/IR with JAR-FCL ATPL Theory credit will be credited the JAR-FCL ATPL(A) Theoretical knowledge examination for a period of 7 years from the last validity date of the IR(A) entered in the CPL(A). Latest from Lasors book, didn't say anything about re-doing exams. Seems a bit unfair to have to do them again, who'd do that??. |
Chaps, I was only jesting :ok:.
|
Larger smilies required Mr Cat3C . . . :)
|
What about MCC hours? Or am I pushing my luck now
|
MCC hours do count, but again subject to the classification of the sim. However they don't count towards the 500 multi crew hours - that would be clutching at straws!!!!:=

hi AP, just to confirm what Flying Farmer says, this from LASORS:
G1.4 JAR-FCL ATPL(A) SKILL TEST REQUIREMENTS An applicant for a JAR-FCL ATPL(A) is required to: • Pass the ATPL(A) Skill Test with an authorised Type Rating Examiner. • The applicant shall demonstrate the ability to perform as Pilot-in-Command of an aeroplane type certificated for a minimum of two pilots under IFR, the procedures and manoeuvres required with a degree of competency appropriate to the privileges granted to the holder of an ATPL(A). • The Skill Test may serve as a skill test for the issue of the licence and a proficiency check for the revalidation of the type rating for the aeroplane used in the test, and may be combined with the skill test for the issue of a multi-pilot type rating. • The Skill Test may not be taken until all of the flying experience requirements for the grant of the licence have been met together with the necessary theoretical knowledge examinations. |
Yeap, cant really argue with that. Having seen that, only a fool would risk it, I think I'd rather just wait till > 1500

Topslide,
Sadly that is company dependant. There are companies like easy who will give you an upgrade from FO to SFO when you get that green cover. Its quite a difference in pay too. They won't give you the extra cash just for meeting the requirements sadly |
