globespan--pay for your line training

Hi all,

I'd like to know how many wannabee 737 drivers are paying for there own line training at flyglobespan?

answers on a postcard please..

Lolo737 20th Jun 2005 17:15

Cant help with your question but interested to know if you mean that already type-rated 737 drivers are being asked to pay the line training?

ihatecbs 20th Jun 2005 19:38

i think what he/she is that the globespan new faptl are to pay for thier own 737 rating at gecat once they pass the gecat tests

bantermanter 21st Jun 2005 11:11

sorry guys/girls

what i meant was i've heard that people who have already self funded there own type ratiings were being asked to pay for there own line training at globespan...if this is the case then what is happening to our industry :(

Lolo737 21st Jun 2005 12:36

Jeez, I flamin hope not!

Meeb 21st Jun 2005 16:16

I believe the deal is £20K for the type rating, then £8K for the line training, no salary until all is completed, something like a 6 month waiting list to complete due shortage of trainers.

If people are stupid enough to stump up 30k for an unpaid job then good luck to Globespan.

I weep for the future:confused:

bantermanter 22nd Jun 2005 04:24

the rumours i've heard seem to be true then, its sad to hear that fellow proffesionals are letting the side down by paying up for line training (on revenue earning flights)..do these people also pay up for there opc/lpc and other recurrent training?

how can any training capt sit with some 1 who he knows is paying for the sector, do these guys not feel guilty?

keep ur money guys ,dnt give it to this sham of a company.

Bantermanter

Don't know where you've heard this from, but I've just got a job with them and certainly am not paying for line training.

I can honestly say I don't know of anyone who is.

Perhaps if you are interested in a job with us, this isn't the way to go about finding out the details!

Also, you already know what is happening to our industry unless you've had your head in the sand for the last ten years.

I think you'll find that certain other airlines started the 'paying for line training' scam and indeed one that I know of has had to refund money to people recently, as it was unable to give them the training after they were qualified.

im not interested in a job with globespan....i have a job..and even if i didnt have a job i still wouldnt be interested in a job..if you catch my drift..

wot does annoy me is that there have or are cases were people are forking out for line training, you may have been the lucky 1..or perhaps your in the left hand seat and not joining as a low houred guy..

good luck with your job anyway

Meeb 22nd Jun 2005 20:57

Parcelpup, wind your neck in, it certainly was the MO to pay for line training, if it has stopped now, all good and well.

its sad to hear that fellow proffesionals are letting the side down
Professional might not be the right word....

Before this thread turns into a slagging match have a question for Parcelpup. :{

Once you have shelled out a wad of money to obtain the type rating are you then bonded to the airline or are you free to walk at any time?

Parcelpup 22nd Jun 2005 22:45

Engineer,

Thanks, I don't want this to turn into a slagging match either.

Meeb Didn't know my neck was out, mate. Just putting an honest answer to a fairly inflammatory question.

I paid for my own rating, entirely from my own choosing and was offered a job by one of the companies I approached whilst doing so.

I am free to walk at any time with a reasonable notice period. However, I have been offered certain extras by my employer and am bonded for such - a low amount for a short period.

If you want more info feel free to email me.

regards

I heard of someone who paid for their rating and once they had got their rating, globespan turned around and asked him to pay for his line training.

The Flight Ops Director there makes Del Boy from 'Only Fools and Horses' look like an Angel!

just heard from a mate that he's goinng to be flying for astreaus and paying for 10 sectors of experience...5 grand

Engineer 27th Jun 2005 13:29

and if he fails to achieve the required standard after 10 sectors does he carry on paying until signed off or is the money up front a guaranteed pass :O
