I am planning to take up MSc in Air Transport Management course with Cranfield University UK. You guys please tell me how the course is and what are the career prospectus after the course? Is anyone in the board had completed this course please send me some details.Looking forward to hear from you.

I know someone who has done the course, and the graduates are apparantly very highly sought after, being recruited into route planning, fleet planning and other similar roles within airlines often even prior to graduation.

You might find people here who have done it, but surely it would be better to contact the university directly to find out if you are able to contact alumni?

Thanks for your reply. I already asked university regarding this but they said they cannot provide this information. Thats why I thought of posting over here so some one can help me out with the info. Since I am coming from an IT background lil bit concerned.

It is well worth asking for hard information about where MSc or MBA graduates find employment and how much they earn.

However, the schools are reticent about giving that information. I would guess that the salary and career expectations of such courses are, in reality, pretty mixed. If you are expecting a big hike in your earnings and responsibilities post graduation I suggest you take a more cautious attitude.

A few years a ago I considered an MBA and was offered a place on a prestigious course. Eventually, I declined the offer and completed the City University Air Transport Management and Air Safety Management programmes. The course was excellent but it did little for my career prospects.

A neighbour of mine spent £50,000 on the Sloan course at the London Business School. After two years out of work he is re-training as a school teacher just to find employment. LBS could not give him hard information on salary expectations when he asked . . .

The bottom line with any of these courses is that you should really only read for the degree if you have a passion for the subject and can afford to take a career break.

You really should pester the college for details of alumni earnings and prospects. If they won't give you hard information then ask to speak to a graduate. If the college are unhelpful there may be a reason for this.

Remember, slick marketing exists within academia and they need bums on seats just like the airlines.

Check out the desination before you buy the ticket !

I am starting the same course in October too. I went to visit Cranfield in January and it is really a great place, everyone is very friendly and the teaching seems to be top-notch, from what I ve heard. The course is very industry-oriented, too.

I would be very glad if you mail me. I also have some photos of the campus, so just mention it if you would like to see them.

This is not empty talk but the plain vanilla truth! Also you mention you are from a IT background. That is not a discouraging factor, but unless you have a real keen interest on aviation and is pretty well clued on to things, you will soon get lost in this course you are talking about - the standards are very high ! So unless you are "plane" mad like me, stick to IT (my brother did that - and earns five times more !). Finally it is youyr bank balance which counts - not your overdaft!
