Dear all

I am in the very exciting position after 5 long years of securing two postions with the airlines one turbo prop one jet.

Now the question of which is the better job is not an issue, but the jet job has no definate start date and the turbo prop job date is looming fast.

So my question is do i hold out and wait, turning down a definate start date with company A in the hope B comes along soon?

I have been in a hold pool for six months before the turbo prop job fell into place. I have also been removed from a hold pool on an occasion when KLM UK went to main line.

What would you do???

Thanks in advance I will ofcourse post all details of companies etc when I decide as to recruitment process sim etc...

First congratulations, since there is no start date for your Jet job logic should prevail, so in "my" opinion i would accept the turbo prop job purely on the facts you stated ie: no date for the jet, at least you have the turbo prop to go for.

In aviation you never know what might happen...

Just my 2 cents, im sure you will make the right decision for you.

congrats, its a great feeling when you are eventually able to see some light at the end of the tunnel ! i was in a similar situation a while back, though not between jet and T/P, but the only sensible option i could come up with was to accept the first firm offer offer i got. thats what i did, and havent looked back, imagine if you pass up the first offer, only for apparant second offer to not come through ....... get your foot on the ladder when you have the chance !

Congratulations!

In my opinion, the best thing you can do is to accept the first offer you have, sign at your first opportunity!!, don't care if it's for t/p or jet, if not you may loose both jobs (or not, who knows). In any case, choose what you feel the right option is.

Hope you will join this forum again in the near future to tell us what you finally did.

You Always Always grab the first frim offer in aviation. Too many people have come horribly unstuck hanging on and just missing that enticing jet promise.

I know someone who was in a similar position last summer.

Took the T/P job, did type rating and started line flying and had great fun.

Six months later the jet job came along. Increased salary from jet operator was enough to pay T/P training bond. Currently undergoing 757 type rating.

Always take the firm offer. You can change later if lucky.

Groundloop has posted exactly what I wanted to say. Take the turbo-prop offer, get trained, fly for a wage, keep the jet job opportunity open (if possible) and then make the decision to leave said turbo-prop job during the bond period if a jet job offer arises.

Generally speaking the jet job will pay considerably more, so you can factor in the cost of paying off the bond to work out what it will cost you to move on. I know a number of pilots who have done this, even with a £6k bond on the turbo-prop after 12 months service they were still going to be more than £4k better off in year one on the jet.....plus of course the future earnings potential was significantly better in the jet job.

These are the sort of difficult decisions that are a pleasure to mull over.........!

Thanks for the replies, kind of realised that the only sensible option was to take the turbo prop job!
