Would you take it?

This is a serious question, no wind up, so please take it serious.

I am a cadet with a European major and will not get a job immediately. The expected waiting time is 1.5 years.

Now I have been invited for an interview with another airline, organised by my sponsoring airline. The job would be on a medium jet and very nice.

The little pitfall is, you have to sign an obligation to stay there for 2.5 years, which would mean you would loose about one year of seniority at the mother airline.

Please no advice like "just leave when you are called back". I have the opinion that you should stand by what you sign.

So would you take the job or wait for the major.

Thank you!

What are you doing now?
I would take the job and get some flying done.
There's no guarantee about what will happen with the "mother" airline. Any paid flying you get is a bonus and I am sure you'll enjoy it. As you say, the waiting time you've quoted is "expected". That can either blow out to 3-4 years or shorten to 6 months. I would play the sure thing rather than risk missing out.
Yes, 1 years seniority may have serious ramifications but who's to say you'll stay with them for that period of time?
You'll have 500-1,000 hours in the log book which will make you more interesting to other companies should you choose to move.

TAKE IT!!!! Don't worry about that one year seniority, the experience you gain from the other company will be worth much much more than a seniorty number, especially since your only a cadet....think beyond the seniority game, for now atleast.

Of course you should take it, opportunities like that are hard to come by... Take if, go flying, enjoy it and get the experience, you will notice that log book of yours changing :ok: :}

Like Tinstaafl said the Golden rule in aviation is: To take what you can get, not what you're promised.

And the GOLDEN, GOLDEN rule in aviation is;

COVER YOUR ARSE...

So take it, at least you've got something to build your hours up, whilst you decide your next move...

2.5 years at maximum hours could add up to the best part of 2000 hours, not a bad thing for a cadet surely...?

Take it, enjoy...

Grüße dich Mightbe!

Unless I am mistaken I think I have worked out who the mother and daughter companies are and if I am correct then I am currently one of those people who left "mum" for the "daughter 6 months ago!

All I can say is take the opportunity! This place is fantastic and it is great to see another company and to fly this fantastic aircraft. You would be crazy to give up an opportunity like this!

You can not rely on "Mum" at the moment with her forcast especially with what I believe will happen to the other "daughter" company in your country (i.e. this daughters sister) and their pilots! I think you may be optimistic with 1,5 years!

Don't be greedy on seniority at the mother comany... you may lose a bit there if you come here, but you will lose a lot here if you stay there!

Send me a personal reply and I can answer more questions you may have. ..

PS The decision who is being selected by the daughter will not be made until the 10th! I know the chances are good but don't forget it is not certain yet...

Hope to get an email soon...

It's an absolute no brainer in the current climate! Take the job, run, enjoy and don't worry about the seniority.

Okok, I got the message! :ok:

Let's hope I get into the position to decide.
