GECAT at Crawley have one (the ex-Virgin sim). I have no idea what the hourly rate is, or whether instructors are available.

Lufthansa may still have one in Frankfurt, but since they have recently sold their fleet not sure if it is still there.

Check out their website Lufthansa Flight Training

European have an ex-BA sim at Bournemouth that you can buy time on. Last I heard it was £400 per hour.

Would you be interested in splitting the cost of a sim sortie in the B742?

Im interested wakehead !

Hi all

Great idea by Wakehead ! I would certainly be up for a trip on the 747-200 for 400 quid an hour. PM me if you want to organise something.

Does anybody know how much a 747-200 type rating costs and where to do it?

Thanks in advance

KLM have a 747 sim at AMS, but as they no longer fly classics it's probably no longer runnig.

The sim at GECAT is now owned by MK and it's going to be moved to the owner's premises by all accounts.

I supect GEACT or ALTEON could do you a private 747 course, but have you considered how much the base training will cost at about 10 grand an hour! You will have to fly a min of 6 circuits - 747 circuits are bl++dy huge. One extra circuit will cost you a grand and a half! And who will employ you on such a complex aircraft with one hour on type?

Have you found any training materials for the 747-200? I too would like to have a type and I want to study about it.

heimata,

I'm not sure about your experience level (no indications in your profile) but if it's just the '747 experience' that you're after, you might want to check out this thread that was running on the Private Flying forum recently (especially the link in the second message).

'Dedicated' is one word I could use to describe it. 'Scary' is probably another one...
