Great. Be an airline pilot for the summer!

Does it not worry you all the sheer depths the industry plummets to?

Do you ever wonder of the hundred F/Os made redundant by the collapse of XL which cannot find jobs because they won't work for free, or pay thousands to work? Marriages ruined, families in despair at not finding work.

Does this not make you worry about the long term viability of the career? When you are out of work, the same thing is going to happen to you guys!

It makes me worry every day.

I found the ATP interview process quite thorough, and only 25% were offered a place on the Airline Qualification Course.

CTC make it very clear on the selection day and in all paperwork that the prospect of a placement for ATP candidates is reliant on cadets being placed.

They are upfront about the numbers of candidates in the hold pool, the numbers placed this year, the numbers 're-placed' after their contracts were cancelled, and the number of speculative type-ratings CTC has paid for on behalf of candidates, and so on, which is all you can ask in the current climate.

Is it not preferable to be employed for 6 months over the summer than to remain unemployed? We're not talking about what's ideal or even fair. We're talking about making the most of a bad situation.

Very good point and well said No Sponsor. Alas I fear it will fall on deaf ears generally.

MikeHotel,

Let me get this right.... CTC have basically said that ATPers will only get placed if they do not have enough Cadets to fill any slots?

If this is the case, seeing as they have cadets coming out of their ears, both those completing their IR/CPLs and those who will be returning after this summer's work, there will be ZERO placements for ATPers.

From who exactly? Care to name your source? Pardon the scepticism, but this rumour has cropped up repeatedly over the last year or so and there is absolutely no indication that there is any problem with the relationship between the two, particularly now CTC have introduced FlexiCrew...

Regardless of the rumored relationship difficulties between the two there remains a couple of basic facts to consider.

1. The EZY cadet intake from CTC this year is clearly going to be limited to the summer Flexicrew scheme, recruitment for which must be virtually complete for 2009.

2. The Cadets operating this summer will not be kept on for winter. Thus, around 60 to 70 airbus qualified cadets will then be on the market.

3. Any Flexicrew recruitment for 2010 will start with these cadets and not with the poor guys languishing in the hold pools.

4. Andy Harrison continues to make noises about wider pilot redundancies come winter.

Therefore, I think anyone considering CTC as a training option should not get too excited about the supposed "relationship" with Easyjet, which seems to be taking a turn for the worse.

The EZY contract will run until it is due for renewal in 2011.

http://www.ctcaviation.com/pdf/0103_230803.pdf

One would expect that competitors to CTC will be wanting a slice of the action, and CTC will probably decide not to make the same rookie mistake in announcing how long contracts run for...

For those who have completed their initial application form, how far back did you go for the employment history? The form states:

"Please provide us with details, in chronological order, of any full-time, part-time, temporary, work experience or vacation jobs you have had, including industrial placements and any military service."

and the checklist at the beginning of the form doesn't mention how far back you should go either.

Thoughts?

UK Phase Tribute Video? Tribute?????
Tribute - a gift, testimonial, compliment, or the like, given as due or in acknowledgment of gratitude or esteem.

So yes, a tribute! I've completed the course so made a 'Tribute' video representing my time at EGHH

CTC lives on though!

Has anyone recommended "Get a head for the sky" to you guys yet? Absolutely spot on for passing the CTC application process. Written specifically we suspect but no mention of CTC. Google it or... Get a Head for the Sky - Airline Interview Preparation

Amazon has it also but expensive! Ask around! It's very good!!
