Any estimate of the time frame involved in this application process? Or is it like Ryr where you sit about for months just hoping that you get an email?

I'm not applying for it but if the Wings course is anything to go by (no reason for a huge difference) you'll probably here from them via email in 14 days maximum. Maybe a bit longer due to a huge concentration of applications in a short space of time? Can't imagine that they'll ignore any application, though.

Anyone any idea of how many people are currently in the CTC holding pool and if any airlines are actually recruiting from it currently? i.e. what is the average wait from completion

i'm a bit cautious and suspect on the ATP scheme being opened up again.
i've heard of ppl in their hold pool for over a year and still nothing. I cant help feeling that this is ctc just trying to make a few bucks off desperate cadets who have nowhere else to apply, and ensures some cashflow for ctc during 2009 which is gonna be crap. new partner airlines or not, that means nothing if their not recruiting.
maybe i'm wrong??

The ATP scheme is not for PPL's so not sure where you heard this from...

Thanks for the reply.

Read the post again and realised I made a silly mistake. Didn't read the post correctly and jumped to a wrong interpretation.

As a scheme that would be of potential interest to me, i can only think, that CTC may be counting on the fact that the time taken to complete assessments, train people up and sit in the hold pool (which based on other posts is months!), means that they would potentially be looking to place someone sometime next year. Perhaps they expect the industry to pickup in 2009. Based on the government's 'optimistic' projections in the budget, the economy should start to pickup late this year and recover at a reasonable pace next year?

Cynical = Yes, £400 or whatever CTC charges for assessment per head may pad out an accounts ledger.

Optomistic = As Bananaman said, future planning to cope with trickle demand as economy picks up. I hope this is the case.

Just concerned as I feel CP's/Airlines like the structured element that the CTC NZ then UK fATPL offers. Able to mould the cadets into their way.

You would hope it was maybe for the August/September hiring season (I use the term losely in the current climate). 1 month to filter applications, 1 month vetting, 2 months TR's and CTC indoctrination.

I wonder if any 10,000 hour Excel captains will apply to this as an alternative/new avenue?

400 quid, has it gone up that much? It was something like 140 last year. The whole process can happen very quickly, from application to starting job took something just short of five months for me.

My thinking was to apply and take it from there, no need to rationalise the whys and way fores, just get your application in, try your hardest and make it happen. Don't close off any other opportunities/options.

Is there anybody reading this thread who did the ATP scheme last year (February 2008)?
Could you tell us about your experience and how long did you have to wait in the holding pool? Or how long have been waiting?

Thanks

This comes from the Wings ATP FAQs on their website:

"The ATP hold pool serves to augment the CTC Wings Cadet numbers and we will put CTC Wings ATP pilots forward for placement when we are unable, for whatever reason, to place cadets with our partner airlines".

On the basis of this, it seems to me that if there are already Wings Cadets in the holdpool (on the basis of various PPrune posts), the chances of Wings ATP pilots being offered a position would be a very long way off.

The cost of the assessment day is £190, that's before any extras e.g. overnight accomodation. An expensive day out all in all, but I think the high price would never warrant turning down a potentially good opportunity.

As Sciolistes said, I think the best plan of action is to go, give it your all and then re-assess once you have all the information from ctc, i.e. who they're planning to ship you off to.

A WORD OF WARNING!

I would be be very cautious about the ATP course, I for one know of a guy who paid for the ATP scheme LAST YEAR (summer time). Did his AQC and is STILL WAITING IN THE HOLD POOL!

The application fee for Phase 2 and possibly 3 is GBP184. Now, at 15% VAT the cost for the AQC is 6,549.25, which would give those not having a MCC that and additional sim experience. The price also includes full room and board for the duration of the course, which is said to take three weeks. Still, I find this quite pricy, especially that no one seems to know what to expect from this.

It would be great if some of those already in CTC's holding pool could shed some light on their situatin and experience please.

Thank you!
