I take it, catch, that you can't be bothered to read through this thread, where several people have taken the trouble to record their experiences and the format of the selection procedures so that they're not a surprise to those who come after them? Or are those posts just not good enough for you?

Got stage 2 too!

Hi

I've been invited to stage 2 of the ATP scheme on the 17th of November. I was going to be going to a interview coach before this date until I realised that stage 2 does not consist of an interview! What do people think? Would it be beneficial to go to the coaching session now or keep it until i have hopefully passed stage 2, before going into stage 3 while it's fresher in my mind!?

Thanks Amigos!

Get the interview coaching done ASAP Ramshorn. The actual coaching session will only give you pointers on what you need to work on. The rest you'll need to do in your own time and will take plenty of time and effort. I did a coaching session myself and yes, it did help!

ramshorn:

definately go for the interview coach asap, but a quick word of advice (for what it's worth)

go there to get a better understanding of yourself, ie. your key strengths and potential weaknesses... I didn't goto coaching, but took this approach and found it helped out in my interview.

Also, don't try and anticipate the questions in the interview, as it may be completely different to what you expect (at least it was completely different to what I expected!)

Good Luck!

Hi, could someone give me a rough indicator of how many candidates that apply actually get onto the course?

Also, if you are rejected at a particular phase can you re-apply?

I think the success rate for the ATP is currently standing at roughly 15%. I think they're changing the laws on re-applying.

Am I correct in saying you can't resist phase 1 (initial app) and phase 2? Maybe someone in the know can correct me. You definately used to be able to resit any phase at their discretion.

As far as I know from ATP applicants that went to the same flight school as me, those that failed at stage 2 and stage 3 haven't been allowed to re-apply.

farfadet, I don't know the answer, but you have the chance to ask questions at both phase 2 and phase 3... at least you would show how interested you are in participating in the programme!

Stage 2 is now set so you cant reapply if you fail. Stage 3 I think you can get a second chance if youre close to the mark, but im not sure how often they offer that. Given that Stages 1-3 of the ATP application are the same as the wings one succesful pass rates they claim are around 3.9% for wings cadets and so probably around 5% for ATP

According to these figures more then 50% succeeds.... is this accurate???

I have posted this couple of weeks ago.. but is it really that low (pass rate of 3.9% - 5%)?????

At stage 3 what is more important in the groupsassesment?? Leadership or your ability to teamwork??

Well these are the pass rate figures CTC claimed in the opening speech when I went there for Stage 2:
Stage 1: 33%
Stage 2: 40%
Stage 3: 40%
Stage 4: ~75%

If you work all these odds through you get about 3.9%...if you dont include the stage 4 its around 5% so this is where I get those numbers from. As for group assessment Ive heard they want to see team work and no one dominating the group

Age restriction

I may be missing something but it appears that the age restriction (under 34) has been dropped from the ATP scheme. I appreciate that the law has changed around ageism but I was not sure if this applied to training schools as they were not "employing" you. Good news though.

The figures for the Stage 1 pass rate look a little iffy BobbyK. I'd say it's more like 80%. Otherwise they look pretty convincing. Are those figures cadets and ATP'ers combined or just ATP?

I remember CTC used to publish 80% as being the Stage 1 pass rate, about a year ago. However, in our introductory talk on Stage 2 we were told by the Wings head honcho that the chop rate was quite high and we had done well to get there, not sure if that was just to inspire confidence or not. Anyway, he said he didn't want to disclose the actual percentage as we would "just go and post it all over Prune." Ha! fair enough.

Failed phase 2 As

Hi all, hi James,
I didn't make it either ...
I was so worrying about stage 3 and the group interview, that I did not prepare enough for phase 2... I would advice people going on phase 2 to practice a lot flight simulator, and video games.
What are your plans now James ?
Good luck to everybody, if you have a chance to go through, it is a really a good scheme !
Cheers

I am merely reciting what we were told at the stage 2 introduction.
Whether its accurate or not I have no idea and frankly Im not bothered by it because as they say...if youre what theyre looking for then youll pass!

Its not up to you if youre in that top 4%, all you can do is turn up and give it your best and theyll decide. At then end of the day the stats show nothing! You just have to hope that who you are is real pilot material
