FlyBoyFryer, thank you for your reply things seem to be getting a bit clearer now. Nice to see that you patience has finally been rewarded.

Now that we have established there are two categories of ATP cadet, would you or anyone else for that matter know how many ATP cadets in equal standing with the wings cadets remain to be placed?

Only CTC can and should be the ones to answer that question.

Enough said, best of luck guys!

FlyBoyFryer, thatís the point I was making. It seems to me that no ATP cadets have priority over wings cadets. If you were treated the same as a wings cadet you would have been on a type rating course with the cadets you finished your AQC with in late 2008 (long before now).

Highland, its fairly academic now anyway as all current ATP cadets in the pool know where they stand with regards to priority to wings cadets, and all future ATP cadets will only be placed when the wings cadets pool has been exhaused. So FlyBoyFryer's placement shouldn't affect anyones decision on whether to sign up or not as the terms of placement have changed.

@FlyBoyFryer

And there is the "old" ATP pool; the members of which CTC have grouped along with the Cadets in equal standing.

As far as I know the new terms (not placed until the cadet pool has been exhaused) has been in place from when CTC opened for ATP applications in April 2009.
So am I to understand that any new entries to the "new" hold pool will be divided into 2 categories: Wings cadets (i.e., ab-initio) and ATP entrants (i.e., guys who did the AQC and obtained their CPL/IR elsewhere)?

That would mean that all new Wings cadets entering the hold pool would enter higher than any ATP entrants. Meaning that if there is a continuous supply of Wings cadets, ATP entrants would never be called from the hold pool....?

Is anyone able to shed any light on how many cadets CTC are currently type rating each month. The last figure I heard was that 40 were type rated in November. Are they still pumping through this many cadets a month or have things slowed down a bit?

Anyone who has recently started their AQC, or is now in the pool, can you please tell me how long you waited between being accepted (passing the final assessment at Dibden) and receiving a course date? I passed the selection a couple of weeks ago and am yet to receive my start date. I am reluctant to contact them in case they think I am pestering, but has anyone had a similar issue recently? I can't ask any of the guys who were on my selection day as I was the only one to make it past the morning assessment

Thanks very much in advance guys and girls

Was the same in 2008 and I assume always.

G-ADAM, I was speaking with some CTC cadets the other day who had just started their training with easyJet. They said to me it took about three months from the time they finished their flight training before starting their AQC course. Whether that's the same sort of time period you can expect to wait from ATP selection to AQC I'm not sure. I too am about to go for my final assessment at Dibden. I was just wondering if you could answer a quick question for me. During the interview stage, are the questions fairly evenly balanced between HR questions and technical questions? Or is it more about demonstrating certain competencies, i.e. give me an example of when you did this?

fisherlawrence, min2097 is correct. The interview is all about you, your experiences, your qualities etc. No technical questions.

latest info from ctc

its official now, no placements for atp guys this year! just got an email from ctc saying that they have enough cadets to satisfy the demand. Wings pool down from 160 to 60 now and slowly shrinking. Also attached to the email list of current atp pool with 37 names in seniority order.
i say better luck next time.

Didn't know they were allowed to send list with names to everyone asking for it.
Thought was against privacy, guess I was wrong.

Can anyone else confirm these are the numbers of 'swimmers' currently in the pools? CTC make a huge point (in virtually every email) of saying that currently they have no demand from their partner airlines that can't be met by just using their cadets. I would assume that they anticipate needing to use at least some ATP'ers in the near future otherwise surely the doors would be closed, as was the case a couple of years ago.

As I understand it, there are CTC Wings courses running every 7 weeks with approximately 14 cadets on each which is just over 100 per year. Add to that the 100 ish guys and girls in the pool(s) and that's 200 pilots needing airline placement this year. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how many EZ have asked for, not to mention the other partner airlines, but if what CTC claims is anywhere near true with regard to demand, surely most people should be being placed this year or soon after?

If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be much appreciated!

CTCís reasons for having the ATP pool open are very different now from the good years gone by. It is the same reason that CTC Takeoff has suddenly come about. The Takeoff training is used to fill the lack of demand for IR training at Bournemouth due to wings courses not being filled during the recession. The same is true for ATP cadets and the AQC courses. CTC donít make money with simulators and aircraft sitting idle which is why the scheme is still open.

It is hard to see now how any ATP cadets can be placed when CTC have experienced the highest short term demand they have ever seen and still only placed 100 cadets. This demand is unlikely to continue in the hiring up to 2012 and the wings pool is still being filled. If CTC were confident of demand they would have not changed their terms and continue to rank ATP cadets among wings cadets. The prospects donít look great do they?

still only placed 100 cadets
They've placed nearly 160 (edit: unless you're talking about ATP cadets in which case I apologise as I have no idea!). Just a minor point but worth mentioning! Is the wings holding pool still being filled? Last I heard they didn't have enough cadets for easyJet.

The ATP entrants are told that there's no guarantee they'll be placed at all. With the bottleneck in the intermediate/advanced training pipeline being the use of the A320 sims, the capacity in the B737-300/700 FNPTII is actually unrelated to the rate of placement (type rating). They can keep taking 8 grand from ATP entrants because there is no immediate hurry for wings cadets to complete an AQC when the A320 sim backlog is several months.

contribution towards type rating cost

Hi all,

I see from the CTC website that you may have to contribute towards the cost of a type rating if placed with one of their partner airlines. Does anyone know approximately what this contribution is at present? I have heard of people paying 35k for an A320 rating with Easyjet. Does this apply to cadets on the ATP scheme?

Sorry if this question has already been answered in the past but I am interested in the current situation.

Many thanks

I believe it's in the region of 8k......plus the 6k you pay for the AQC.

I asked that question on the selection day and was told approximately £10k contribution for EZ. But not sure about any other partner airlines. Bit disappointing to hear that is is extremely unlikely any ATP'ers will be placed in 2011! Never say never though, I suppose...

AQC is now £8400 (£7000 + 20% tax). Makes the decision to do the course all the more difficult knowing that you have a long wait ahead of you.

Thanks for those replies. Actually not as bad as I feared. Although, if its true that there will be no ATP placements for 2011 then there seems no point in applying.
