I was given the Family Fortunes "Ehhh Ehhhh". I'd like to think its because I hold a TR and have hours on type. However everyone else on here appears to be successful.

Yes, you do. It says so on their website in the FAQ section. The question though, whether a candidate not holding a MCC before commencing on the AQC will be issued with a MCC after completion, remains unanswered.

Yes, if you do not already hold an MCC you will be issued one after successful completion of the AQC. If you already have done one before commencing the course they don't issue you a second one!!

Good Luck.

They do issue an MCC but there are catches. The MCC can only be used if you complete the type rating with CTC. If you were offered a job from another airline, unconnected with CTC then the MCC is not usable. I know this is strange but having previously completed the scheme, I know it to be true.

Thank you. I do not have a MCC at this point and obviously I wouldn't get a second one... Makes sense.

That is VERY interesting what you're saying there and considering the fact that successful candidates are unlikely to be offered a job in the upcoming months after completion of their AQC is certainly making that scheme less attractive.

Now, here's my dilemma: Without a MCC I have made it into the holding pool for a TP job with a European regional. I was told to expect to start my TR in early 2010, if I get lucky at the end of this year. At this point, it's unclear who pays for the TR. If it turns out that I'd have to, what's the point in doing an overpriced, restrictive MCC before? What would you guys do?

It might have changed since I went through the scheme but, yes, you do need to do the MCC week even if you have an MCC. Most people on the course already had an MCC and most said that the format of the CTC one was completely different and much more useful and relevant to not only airline flying but also it helped immensely with the following two weeks of the AQC.
We all got issued with certificates at the end of the three weeks - it was not dependent on passing the TR.

Does anyone know how many people are in the Wings holding pool at current? From one source I have heard that the pool has 25-30 and another source has told me that it is completely empty. A friend recently at the ATP selection has told me there are currently 3 people in the AQC hold pool. I would also appreciate any info on airline employment figures over the last 5-6months from the pool. ie who has been hiring, how many did they hire, permenant or fixed contracts etc

Holding Pool!!

I spoke to one of the girls who deal with ATP selection recently and she told me that there are around 28 wings cadets currently in the hold pool and around about 12 graduating every month or so.

If you were selected onto the AQC course and pass it with good results you go into the holding pool behind the wings cadets and the wings cadets will be placed with airlines first "IF" they start recruiting... seems like a big risk if you already have an MCC but then again there is nothing else about!! and there are 3 or 4 people in the ATP hold pool.

If no airline recruites for the next few months going on current situation there could be well over 60 wings cadets waiting in the hold pool and all of them will get placed with airlines before any of the ATP hold pool guys so who knows how long you will be sitting around for!!

All the best to the guys who are thinking of applying who knows might see you guys at some point still considering if i should apply or not

Well, if ATP has re-opened, it is simply because of a massive lack of cadets... There is less and less people arrriving in NZ every month, mainly due to finance problems...

I would think twice, especially for those who currently hold a MCC, you may find yourself spending another 5-10k for a desapointing result.
The only employment opportunities CTC now has is a summer deal with EZY. As, us cadets, are totally free for the first 6 months, EZY will never hire anyone else than cheap cadets for its high season.. That's exactly what's happening at the moment and I don't see why it would change.
If you can afford a FI rating with a kind of job after go for it, otherwise contact any ground service company, thay may need some dispatcher for the summer. You'll keep in touch with the industry and use your money to keep current.

And finally, be aware that airlines mainly recruit during the late winter time, so it's pointless to start anything now.
Well this is my opinion, I am a CTC cadets and it already doesn't seem very bright for us!!
Best of luck

From what I can gather, the scheme is basically this;

You pay circa 6k for an extended MCC course, which most of the applicants will already have got for 2-3k.

You then enter a 'hold pool' which is already currently full and growing. Rumour has it you will be behind the wings cadets.

If you get lucky, you will be given a six month temp contract which pays 1k per month. You are then on your own.

Is this a realistic way of looking at it?

Sorry for the cynasism.

Currently between 30 and 40 cadets in the post AQC hold pool, some of whom have been there a considerable time already. Increasing at 10-12 a month. The ATP pool is fairly empty, with those who had been in the pool for a year recently placed ahead of wings cadets.

So realistically, if successful on the ATP course a cadet will be waiting for a year before being placed unless the wings pool empties which it won't?

Don't forget the positive side, the TR is free, you dont have to pay for it unlike with Ryanair. Of course there is also an agency behind you trying to find you a job, better than being on your own I suppose! However if you have an MCC already.... there's always pros and cons..

I think the main chances are with EZY if you do this course, so does anyone know what the contract is like vs RYR?

You do pay for it. You earn 1,000 per month for 6 months. You should be earning close to 3,500 per month. So you lose 6 x 2,500 plus you pay 7,000 for a designer brand MCC. Do the math and tell me again you don't pay for it.

Surely you always pay for your TR in one way or another, either by longer time to command, being bonded at lower initial wages or by signing the cheque yourself?

It has been said earlier here the MCC was restricted and useless when applying to a company other than those associated with CTC.

This is untrue as I have learned today. The MCC issued after AQC completion is a mutually recognized MCC.

Maybe that helps some in their decision making.

There are still a few guys in the ATP hold pool (who returned to the hold pool last autumn when permenant contracts were not given) who are type rated with 200-550hrs on type, who are not even getting a look in for any job.
I have been a little unlucky joined the hold pool just over 2 years ago where I am back now, and only flown for 9 months since that time. And the way things are, I have accepted Im going to be here for a sometime yet.
