A young lad going for an interview for a cadetship in 2009 (This actually happend, Chief Pilot & HR told me after during smoking break)..
Hr : So, where do you see your self in 5 years ?

Potential Cadet : In 5 years time, I see my self flying the space shuttle.

(Now, 99% of people said, In 5 years time I see myself hopefully as a captain for this airline etc etc).

Needless to say, this guy didnt get the cadetship

But you never know, he may up sending a post card from the ISS in 2014

Some apocryphal answers given at Qantas interviews.

Q. "What if any are your weaknesses?"
A. "Kryptonite"

Q. "Do you drink alcohol?
A. "No more than the average airline pilot"
Cue amused giggles and smirks from the tech crew and blank stares from the HR bods.

Stownley,

Here the answer that disproves statement 3

Computer 1 AHE
Computer 2 GFD
Computer 3 BC

I think this is the only solution to disprove a statement.

Interviewer: "So Dan, how's your Masters Degree in Aviation Management progressing?"

Me: "I'm being made redundant and looking for work is like a full time job in itself. I've been busy filling in applications and preparing for interviews and haven't yet finished the first module."

Interviewer: (with prior knowledge of a previous meeting between ourselves in a hostelry where we had both been partaking of the excellent refreshments available in the establishment) "So, what you're trying to say is that you haven't really got out of the pub long enough to do any study!"

Me: "Errrr..........Yes!"

I got the job and nine years later, I still haven't finished the first module. Honesty is usually the best policy,

Interviewer: "You're in the hotel lobby and there's a bunch of cabin crew about to go shopping. They invite you along to carry the bags. What do you do?"

The answer is you go with them. This was asked at my interview with Scrogg's airline and is a common question from them.

Your captain has opened the cockpit window for a quick smoke. What do you do?
Perform a sharp left turn so he falls out! Don't forget to shout "I have command".

Always good to show a bit of CRM.
haha wow mate dont ever leave england you may be in for a shock. Happens on 99% of the flights i crew. Though they usually dont open the window but are usually nice enough to wait until TOC to do it though...

That crippling interview question!

A colleague is presenting a MCC course and wants to include some interview help. Have any of you with recent airline interview experience come across that killer question(s) that you wished you had of had some prior knowledge of, as it may have caught you off guard, or indeed any tricky question you would like to share? Thank you.

What have airline interview questions got to do with MCC?

Probably nothing on most MCC courses especially if you have lost sight of the fact that the primary aim of spending around £90,000 on training is to get a job!

It's irrelevant if you've spent £1m on flight training, interview questions still has nothing to do with an MCC course.

Hmmm, a shame that this thread did not develop more happily. I'm hoping that the OP's colleague is offering a free session at the end of the MCC, perhaps. I agree, it would not be proper to include interview training within the course.

To business: I would venture that there are very few 'crippling' questions, but many more perfectly murderous answers.

If you're asked a question to which you don't know the answer, for heaven's sake don't try to bluff your way around it, but be honest.

If you're not sure, just admit defeat gracefully 'I'm really sorry, I understood the question but I simply don't know the answer'. If it's an ops manual question (and I hope you have all read at least one operator or another's parts A, B, C and D, so you know the sorts of things they contain) you might add where you would look for the answer.

There are good reasons why a good interviewer WILL ask questions to which the candidate doesn't know the answer - it's about testing breadth and depth of knowledge. The crucial thing is where the boundaries of your knowledge lie, not whether or not you have rehearsed a set of answers to tricky questions...

the hardest question was, tell me a clean joke. my mind went blank.

At my MCC course we were provided with a big pack of interview questions. Was very useful.

The long running Ryanair interview thread has over 2600 posts now. I suggest your friend copies and pastes those into a word document to make up his own pack.

If your MEL etc. doesn't prohibit operation, then the question is probably aimed at seeing if you know that in the UK at least, ATC can give you permission to operate minus a Nav. Light.

ah they won't let you depart without it, only continue a flight.

so would you scrap the flight if you couldn't get it fixed?

what if mon capitan wants to go?

Ref the broken nav light, ask nicely and you might be surprised.

Had a wing tip lens/light broken during de-icing, befdore start, on a SD 330 some time ago.
Phoned the tower and did LTN BRU LTN in the middle of the night with no probs.
