So Iberia has just two days ago announced their new half-sponsored scheme for 2019. Of course I have just applied. Thoughts?

€55K plus Type Rating is still a lot of money, whilst it's an improvement on the previous offering from Iberia, it's still going to exclude a lot of candidates on financial grounds. They'd have been much better doing an FPP-style funding solution if fully funding the training was not an option.

My guess is not only Spaniards will apply, but also Latin Americans with European passports (like me). Being the main airline connecting Europe and LatAm maybe they’re interested in taking in a couple people who aren’t Spanish? Of course the total opposite could be true, and they could be looking just to hire nationals. I’ve never figured out if Iberia is open to hiring non-Spanish people, my guess is if you meet the requirements you’re fair game. I know other IAG airlines like BA and Aer Lingus have taken in people from all over Europe, hopefully Iberia will follow suit.

This is my very cynical view, but at the end of the day given EU law and the fact that most Europeans will speak English, there isn't much that BA or Aer Lingus can do to stop EU nationals applying. I mean Aer Lingus could say you need to speak Irish, but that would only make 36% of their country eligible. Air France and I suspect Iberia put the language requirement in to prevent people not from Spain/France applying, but this keeps them within the rules of the EU. (Again my cynical view).

True. I just hope that they’re open to other Spanish-speaking nationals from LA who hold EU passport. I also don’t know if AF is open to EU passport-holding Algerians or Tunisians for example, but a man can dream.

BA ask for level 6 English (rightly so) and Aer Lingus could do the same. You won't filter out all non EU nationals but it will certainly prevent a significant number from being able to apply without stopping your own.

Iberia ask for Level 6 Spanish, that can only be understood as an attempt to filter out non Spanish. Even an eager student couldn't learn Spanish to a decent level and apply.

Hello guys,

I was reading the candidate profile on the FTE's website, and before applying to this selection, I'd like to ask you some questions:

1- I noticed in the candidate profile that I should hold a formal ELP certificate. Is it required to have it during the first stage of the application ? Unfortunately, I don't have it yet, but I will be more than happy to pass it. Moreover, I've seen that it's possible to do it in FTE school. Do you think that it will be possible to attend to this certificate before the 5th of September ?

2- I saw that several questions will be asked to me in the first step, how can I prepare myself for it ?

3- If I am selected to go to Jerez, is it possible for me to select a specific date to go through the assessment in the school ?

Hi,
1. If you dont have an ELP certificate you will have to do an online benchmark and thereafter an oral exam through skype.
2. It's just two questions "in no more than 750 words" and you have 5 days to answer.
3. In the questionnaire you will be asked your preferred date for the first assessment at Jerez.

Am I the only one who thinks that 111.000 € + TR (at least 125.000 € in total) is too much money, even for an airline sponsored programme? In my opinion, it's not worth paying 55.000 € more just to work at Iberia (or even Iberia Express!). I believe people forget that this is just a job, nothing else! Why would I want to pay that amount of money to work? And if you are going to answer me that this is your childhood dream/vocation, why don't you consider modular training? Dreams should not have a pricetag of 125.000 €.

Seems to me you’re misunderstanding something. You’re not paying €111,000 + TR to work for Iberia. Iberia is gonna pay €55,000 of the €111,000, so you would have to pay €55,000 + TR. It is still a good deal for people who do not reach the kind of amount of money the course demands, which normally costs €119,000 if you go whitetail.

Isnt it the TR financed by Iberia (and later on deducted from your salary as the other 55k euro)?
Or is it also an up front payment?

Well, it does not make any difference to me, because when I start working for Iberia Express I will have 111k + TR in debt: 55k for Iberia and 56k + TR for the bank. I agree with you that this is better than doing a self-sponsored course at L3/CAE/FTE, but why would you pay 120k when there are cheaper options for 60k? I would not complain if this Cadet Program had the same conditions as the Aer Lingus one. Meanwhile, IAG's operating margins and profits are skyrocketing...
