Any idea if they are charging people assessment fees? I've looked in detail both on the Aer Lingus website and on PPRuNe and haven't been able to see anything relating to this.

The travel and accommodation I know would be a couple of hundred quid and if attending selection cost anymore than this I'd give it a miss.

ezy308, I've been involved in the last few rounds of recruitment and asked about that cover letter upload in previous applications.

I was in the same boat as yourself and thought you needed to upload but it is simply a generic piece of text that is present on all EI applications. It is not something they change application to application if you get me, it is simply part of the make up of their site, as most applications indeed would required a cover letter normally.

The screencap that is posted above with the CV specific text is the text entered by the EI staff, and a CV is what is required. A cover letter at this point would simply make too much reading to screen effectively....You will be tested then retested and then if you meet the mark you will be closely looked at.

Later on in the process when further documentation is required, you still don't submit a cover letter even though that little message is there niggling at you, but I understand where you are coming from. Best of luck in your application.

Chris the Robot, the last 2 years of selection there has been a fee of around the €250 mark for the assessment day. That was payable directly to FTE Jerez. Not certain about this year, but FTE Jerez are involved again so I would almost count on it.

From what I understand, fte will have no involvement with the selection process. The scheme will be ran totally in house this time.

Anyone know if it'll be essay style questions with a specific time frame to answer them in like the previous 2 years, or online tests which people seem to be mentioning quite a bit?

PPL is acceptable (HR error!)
No assessment fee involved

Flyveryhigh, At the pilot expo in croke park (in May if i remember) the Aer Lingus captain that was giving a speech was asked how many cadets this year and he said 13. he seemed to be pretty sure of it too.

There is, in my opinion, a fine line between "commitment" and being taken advantage of. I can't think of any other mainstream industries where candidates have to pay specifically for a job interview with a company. I have in the past attended one assessment day with an airline where there was an "assessment fee", I subsequently decided it was rubbish value for money.

I think everyone agrees that it might be slightly unfair to take payments for assessments but surely this cannot be enough to turn someone off the job! Successful candidates essentially have their career laid out for them; a reasonably secure, well-paying position with a pension and great prospects for career progression, not to mention the opportunity to fly an airliner, which is what we all want! Perhaps a couple of hundred euros is a small price to pay for the potential returns...

Application deadline has been extended to midnight(IST) on Monday July 11th of July. So you've still time to put in an application.

IST zone is currently 4hrs and 30 mins ahead of Ireland so that would be 7:30pm on Monday, if I'm not mistaken.

I only a few other cadets had this attitude then assessment fees, paying for type ratings, zero-hour contracts et al wouldn't be so commonplace. Full credit to Aer Lingus for going against the grain when it would have been easy (or much cheaper) for them not to have

Where someone is going to part with £100,000 I fail to see what difference £250 will make, to say it's a drop in the ocean is an understatement. If taking the moral high ground is priority, then you shouldn't even consider applying to a course that asks for so much cash, because even if the assessment was free ... you are still being ripped off by the overpriced training if successful at said assessment day.
And for the chance to have the full training and TR paid for, i think not even applying to it because of a small assessment fee is a bit unappreciative of what the company are actually offering.
