Will tattoos affect employment prospects?

I'm fully expecting this to plummet to the bottom of the ratings, I'll pull it if I can as soon as I get some decent answers but...

exactly what it says in the title. I'm not talking about a full body suit, just a couple of small ones, located torso, upper arm, forearm etc.

They would be covered when wearing long sleeve shirts.

Any opinions/ facts?

I have numerous buddies with "Tough Stickers" in Cathay - Jet Star - Qantas .... no one cares as long as they are covered up for work.

Get the Love Hate done on your knuckles so checkers don't mess with you on line checks!

I know T&C's have dropped in maany parts of the industry, but really you should be keeping your clothes on for the recruitment process.

unless the tattoo is across your face, i can't see it making a difference.

I have one upper arm.
Never ever been noticed by anybody at work and I wear short sleeve normally... Flown with maybe 4 or 5 skippers in the UK who had them and they WERE visible when performing overhead panel SOPs..

Just make sure at an interview you wear a darker long sleeved shirt....
Cheers CJ...

Bruce Dickinson flies professionally - I imagine he had a little ink done.

Unless you have Love & Hate tattooed across your knuckles, you should be fine.

Wear your long shirt and don't give it another thought.

Gentlemen,

I left this thread to run and returned to it after a few beers expecting a couple of short, borderline offensive, posts.

May I thank you all for your informative, and incredibly amusing, comments!

I did spare a thought for Mr. Dickinson, wasn't sure whether he'd had ink done or not, the Maiden guys always seemed very well behaved, never saw any artwork on Bruce (no offence by use of first name intended).

Thanks again guys and girls!

Why don't you get the QRH tatooed on the forearm? I'm sure the airline would approve, although it would have to be type specific.

A "Remove Before Flight" tat may be counter productive to the career prospects though !

Last year while job hunting in Arik Air in Nigeria, I saw an expat pilot in uniform with a tat running from elbow to wrist. I hear he flies dressed in short sleeves with the tattoo visible.

I've got a few myself but they always covered while I'm at work.

I don't think Bruce has any visible, at least not that I noticed on FD.

In Nigeria, a pilot fully tatted out gives "rep" to the airline. It is a violent place after all.

As long as there is no bar code on your neck, you should be ok.

As long as it is not visible when wearing your uniform most do not care at all. Visible tattoos however can be a problem.

As Denti says, not a problem as long as it is not visible in uniform, or at least in the uniform you'll be wearing in front of the public. I asked this question about a year ago. I was told not to worry, so went and got mine done.

It became a conversation topic at interview (A standard "Do you have any piercings or tattoos which are visible and you can't/won't cover up?" question) and I'm fairly certain that it actually went to my benefit as it's an aviation related tattoo!
