Qatar mentored cadet programme - OAA

Hello,

Noticed OAA's website mentions a new mentored cadet pilot programme with Qatar Airways, starting in 2011. Anyone know anything about this one? Is it for entry as an SO or an FO? Nationals or international?

I thought FTE had the tie-up with Qatar, surprised to see OAA get this one.

...looks like the middle east is opening up to low/zero timers.

Qatar selects OAA for Mentored Cadet Scheme

October 28th 2010

We are pleased to announce that OAA Oxford has been selected by Qatar Airways as an approved FTO for their Mentored Cadet Pilot Scheme. Following a review conducted earlier this year, our Oxford training centre was identified as meeting Qatar's requirements for excellence and was approved as an FTO for the Cadet Scheme due to be launched in early 2011.

Along these lines, a number of selected OAA graduates will start a TR with Qatar next month. Upon finishing the TR, grads will go in as Second Officers for up to two years before promotion.

I heard the number was as little as 4 for next month, any truth in that?

Six were put forward for interviews based at Oxford. Four were subsequently offered jobs. Future possibilities for OAA graduates rest on how the recruits integrate into the company.

Thanks for the info. Looks like PTC in Ireland are saying the same thing. I know FTE grads have been going to qatar for a while. It sounds to me that this is more akin to the BA SSP process rather than a true 'mentored' scheme whereby selection is done before going to flight school - e.g. BE, TCX, WX schemes.

Job offers are yet to be made. The four that were successful at Oxford went forward to interviews with Qatar at LGW along with cadets from FTE.

Qatar Aeronautical College

This is interesting. Qatar Airways appears to have pulled its students out of its own college in Qatar and sent them to Spain with FTE ! In the meantime they have also approved OAA and PTC. Seems their own college is going FAA and moving away from the airline (JAR ops). All very curious, watching this one closely !!!

Miss Information

The College has built new buildings at the flight line at both airports. Has purchased a new fleet of glass cockpit Piper Aircraft. Has renovated the existing facilities. Has increased passrates over 40% in the last three years and maintains a JAR like program while in the process of Seeking JAR Approval. They are not changing to a FAA based program but appear to be blending for an international program based on both systems. The CAA of Qatar Decides what authority to mirror and they have chosen JAR. This is not up to the College.Get your facts straight...

Qatar Aeronautical College dreadful facilities give this a miss

Having had to sit the QCAA (Qatar CAA) Air Law and attend Dangerous Goods and Security while undergoing groundschool for Qatar Airways I must state that their current facilities at the existing Doha Airport are well below par.

Inefficient airconditioning, small cramped classrooms in delapidated porta-cabins in the car park and no shade when walking between said buildings in the summer at 45 deg C are unacceptable.

Steer Clear until there are vast improvements to the facilities.

Lofty One, the new aircraft have been purchased for a year and are still to arrive. New buildings at the flight line? Where? Al Khor? no new stuff yet.
The buildings at QAC are new but not for the pilot training side, they are all for the airport management courses. The current classrooms at PTD are well below par with bad IT, A/C and no support.
Management there stinks and they hang their staff out to dry on a regular basis.
Argue those FACTS please.
