Heh chaps it is 33k euro at present. I looked into obtaining the vat after I completed the course with a specialist tax accountant. There are so many hoops to jump through and in the be and end all you wont get the vat back.
Ryanair would of course tell you how to do it if you could.
What everybody says, with them being an average company, well I earn excellent money £60k equiv as an FO, £100k Equiv as a cpt, now with great benefits (holidays,pension,etc) and paying for the type is the best thing I ever did.£60k as an FO is more pay than Captains get in feeder airlines (Flybe, Eastern, Bmi regional)etc.
All airlines ask for a type rating payment these days apart from the usual BA, Virgin etc but lets face the facts you aren't going to be employed by those airlines with no experience.
Unfortunately bite the bullet pay for the type and get a jet type rating in the age where there are no jobs in the industry going round. Trust me its worth it!!!

Thanks for that guys
the VAT I am not sure the formula for 19% but 17% you used to take the total figure and divide by 47 then X by 7 and that gave you the VAT ammount
32750 Divide by 47X7 = 4877
so 32750 - 4877 = 27873 so the above figures are about right
just getting it back could be like trying to find rocking horse S&&t

Basic Maths guys;
19% of the TR amount, plus that TR amount, equals 32750
or as an equation,
0.19R + R = 32750
1.19R = 32,750
R = 27,521
where R = Rip off TR cost without tax which makes MOL laugh all the way to the bank.
Or, in other words, the tax is 5229.
More chance of a free RYR tea bag than getting that back.

Exactly EK4457, just as I did. And it really is basic, pre GCSE level maths.
The real cost? Possibly your parents homes when combined with the rest of your debt.
Sorry I couldn't resist, have your thread back and enjoy your TRs.

There's nothing complicated about getting the Netherlands VAT back, can't speak for the Oxford type rating but CAE gave us the info to do it, from there it was a matter of filling in some online forms, getting the Dutch VAT number and sending off the CAE invoice to them. 6 months later I got the full VAT amount on the CAE invoice, my accomodation invoices and some of my petrol receipts back in full to my bank account. I didn't even use my accountant to do it. Its a fair chunk of money that I'd rather not see the Dutch government have, so its well worth doing.

Type Rating VAT refund
Chaps, it is quite possible to get the VAT back. I completed my Type course at CAE and have successfully received my VAT. It can be very frustrating with all the correspondence from the Dutch authorities in Dutch, but worth it.
Please feel free to contact me if you require assistance as I have helped several other people to do so.

The tax regulations have now changed in the Netherlands, and on the condition CAE has a VAT number from you, it is no longer essential for you to pay the 19% tax for your type-rating course in advance (previously tax has needed to be paid, and then claimed back).
